While we’ve never been impressed by the Rainforest Cafes, a lot of our readers rave about them. The shopping and the kid appeal must be the attractions because it certainly isn’t the food (or service). But the semisecret entrance into Animal Kingdom, hidden past the Rainforest gift shop, might be the best reason for its existence.
Setting and Atmosphere
It’s always packed, and there’s usually a wait, but families flock to this now-familiar restaurant for big plates of food in a noisy dining room with lots to keep the kids entertained. Look for the giant volcano that can be seen, and heard, erupting all over the Marketplace; the smoke coming from the volcano is nonpolluting, in accordance with the restaurant’s conservation theme. The dining room looks like a jungle— imagine all the silk plants in the world tacked to the ceiling—complete with animatronic elephants, bats, and monkeys (not the most realistic we’ve seen). There’s occasional thunder and even some rainfall.
House-made crab dip, Caribbean coconut shrimp, burgers, ribs, brownie cake with ice cream.
