The current hub area, Sunshine Plaza, is dominated by a fountain fronting an arresting metal sculpture of the sun. In addition to serving as a point of departure for the various themed areas, Sunshine Plaza is one of the best places in the park to encounter the Disney characters and is also a great photo op. Beginning in late 2010 Sunshine Plaza will be replaced as part of the overall DCA refurb with buena vista street, a re-creation of 1920s Hollywood as Walt saw it when he first arrived. Among the new features will be a replica of the Carthay Circle theater, which premiered Snow White in 1937, as well as new shops with new facades, and red trolleys to complete the experience. Delayed for about a year because of the recession, construction here is expected to be complete sometime in 2012.
