Setting and Atmosphere

Old-world Mexico meets California modern. Mexican touchstones such as glazed tiles; thick, crude glass; and wrought iron accent a sweeping, open dining room with modern, eclectic touches. You can grab a quick bite on the run at the taqueria, and the bartender pours from a huge selection of more than 100 premium and super-premium tequilas at an outdoor cantina. the place goes crazy on the weekends, so gird yourself with a raucous, booze-shooting, beer-chasing good time.

House Specialties

Start with the queso fundido, a pot of melted cheese plumped up with diced tomatoes and poblano chiles, and/or a bowl of the guacamole. the Yucatan chicken, a rotisserie half-bird with a red-chile glaze and caramelized pineapple, is still the best thing on the menu.

Other Recommendations

Try the tortas, Mexican-style sandwiches served on traditional telera bread. the chicken torta is made with sliced chicken breast, homemade mango-banana salsa, and chipotle mayonnaise; the steak version comes with grilled carne asada, fresh Mexican soft cheese, red onion, tomato, avocado, and lettuce.

Summary

Another Patina group eatery from uber-chef Joachim Splichal, tortilla Jo's is upscale Mexican with a culinary twist. The kitchen seems to have suffered a dumb down, or a pandering to blander tastes. everything, aside from the dishes mentioned above, has been flattened. the menu (and the loosey-goosey crowd) may be too much for the kids, but adults will appreciate a shot of Sauza Silver tequila and a long, tall glass of ice-cold Corona beer. hotcakes. wood-fired pizzas at lunch and dinner are also tasty.
