Because of Mama Melrose’s out-of-the-way location, you can sometimes just walk in, especially in the evening, but this will change as Disney’s new Star Wars attractions take up what was wasted space nearby. The food won’t win any awards—the red sauce is a little heavy, for instance—but for family-style Italian, it’s fine.
Setting and Atmosphere
Tucked at the back of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Mama Melrose’s is easy to miss. This casual restaurant is inspired by “red-sauce Italian” joints as much as New York and L.A. movie scenes: checkered tablecloths, red vinyl booths, and grapevines hanging from the rafters. Ambience is generally quiet unless it’s peak season.
Fresh mozzarella, penne alla vodka or campanelle pasta with chicken or shrimp, flatbread pizza substitutes, seasonal pastas, pork saltimbocca. Whole-wheat pasta available.
Cioppino; charred strip steak; oak-fired mussels; tiramisu, Ghirardelli chocolate and cherry torte, and cannoli for dessert.
