Exceeding expectations for a non-signature dining location in both food and service, Boatwright’s might just be a true hidden gem of Disney dining. It can be tough to find a reservation here, but it’s worth the visit (and wait prior to seating) when you do. Nothing here is over-the-top or fancy, but a stop here will yield a truly satisfying meal with friendly and honest service.
Setting and Atmosphere
Situated between River Roost Lounge and Riverside Mill Food Court, just off of Port Orleans Riverside’s lobby, Boatwright’s features a simply-appointed open dining room bathed in golden wood finishes, with diners feasting on New Orleans-inspired classics underneath a large boat skeleton. Always bustling and tad noisy, the restaurant serves dinner daily.
French Onion Soup, classically presented smothered in gruyere, is a hearty way to start a meal here if you aren’t in the mood to share. You’ll fight dining companions for the last forkful of Mardi Gras pimento cheese fritters before settling in for entrees. Even the vegetarian jambalaya will satisfy guests, just as flavorful as the traditional Andouille and shrimp-packed version on the menu. Charleston-style creamy shrimp and grits are particularly exceptional, but be sure to save room to share one of many incredible desserts with the peanut butter mousse cake, red velvet cheesecake, or classic Southern banana pudding.
Colonel Peace’s Pieces highlights the best of Southern fried fare, and the Turbodog Barbecued Ribs impress those looking for something a bit heartier. Voodoo Chicken and Waffles and a traditional warm vinaigrette-topped Spinach salad round out the savory menu favorites.
