Festival of the Masters
The 2014 Festival of the Masters has been cancelled due to the massive renovation project at Downtown Disney. Hopefully it will return in 2015
November 2014, exact dates tbd – Downtown Disney
Each November Downtown Disney hosts an extraordinary artistic event called Festival of the Masters. This exhibition showcases hundreds of artists in dozens of various mediums and allows you to browse their work, sample some food and drink offerings, and even purchase that special piece of art to take home. The exact dates for 2014 have not yet been announced, so keep checking this space and we will update it as soon as they are.
At the Festival of the Masters you will find well over 100 fine artists who have honed their skills into beautiful paintings, photographs, sculptures, jewelry, glass, wood, and more. There are also showcases for emerging masters as well as several spots where you can witness some astonishing chalk art. Of course, being Disney, there is also a section devoted to art portraying favorite Disney characters.
If browsing art isn’t necessarily your thing, maybe making art is. There are family activities available as well as crafting experiences and children’s chalk art spots. If you would rather just sit back and take it all in, there are also “art chats,” which we assume to be chats about art, not simply a guy named Art chatting, as well as live performance artists that create a masterpiece live on stage.
There is also plenty of food available from just about all of the Downtown Disney restaurants if looking at fine art works up that appetite. Plus, brand new in 2013, Mixers and Masters stations were set up at many Downtown Disney establishments. These concoction crazy cocktail corners offered some of the restaurants’ more unique mixed adult beverages. To top off this new development, “The Art of Mixology” demonstrations were performed at the Waterside Stage.
Most of the weekend is free with the obvious exception of the food and drink, so if you are a fan of art at any level this is an event you will want to attend. The glut of talent in many of these artists is astounding and, who knows, you may just find that perfect piece to tie your whole room together.
