DC
National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial

Description And Comments

The Pentagon was struck by American Airlines flight 77 during the horrible attacks on September 11, 2001, exactly 60 years to the day that construction on the building began. The plane penetrated 3 of the 5 rings on the building’s west side tragically cutting short the lives of 184 people on both the airplane and in the Pentagon. Only the sheer luck that renovations were ongoing on that section of the Pentagon kept the toll from being even higher. A memorial to those 184 victims is found on the west side of the Pentagon, with elegant benches dedicated to each one. It is an open and serene, yet solemn space.
