10 Changes We Saw at Walt Disney World This Week, August 29, 2021

Our in-parks team is in Disney theme parks every week recording wait times, trying food, soaking in the atmosphere, and looking for any changes that might impact your vacation. Here’s nine changes that stood out to us this week.

SCUBA Mickey at The Seas

We’re always excited to see SCUBA Mickey hanging around the tanks at The Seas with Nemo and Friends. He’s been stopping by every so often lately, which is always a crowd pleaser.

Turtle Talk with Crush Reopens

Dude! Turtle Talk is back at The Seas with Nemo and Friends after a lengthy hiatus. Guests can once again talk with that totally tubular turtle, Crush, from Finding Nemo. Righteous!

Dockside Diner Reopens

Over at Hollywood Studios, the Dockside Diner at Echo Lake has reopened. One of the most beautiful items on the menu is the Seaside Brownie. It looks almost too pretty to eat!

Concrete Work in Magic Kingdom

Work continues in Magic Kingdom to spiffy everything up for the 50th. We’ve seen some concrete replacement work going on around the castle this week.

Fall Drinks at Starbucks

It’s that time of year again — fall-themed drinks are now available at Starbucks, even at Walt Disney World. (But let’s be real — if you’re a fan of the PSL, you already knew that, didn’t you?)

FastPass Machines — Huh?

With all the news about Genie+ coming to Walt Disney World, we saw a lot of action around some returning FastPass machines at Walt Disney World. If we had to guess, it looks like there will be options for Genie+ and Lightning Lane in the park, even if you don’t have a smartphone. We’ll keep an eye on that to see what’s going on.

Tiana’s Playground at EPCOT

Over at EPCOT, a new play area themed to Princess Tiana has been installed for the duration of the Food and Wine Festival. It looks very similar to previous incarnations, but I know kids who have a lot of energy to burn off will be very happy to see the return of any playground at EPCOT!

Princess Wave and Greet at EPCOT

At EPCOT, cavalcades are out and distanced “wave and greets” are in. We found Mickey and pals near the entrance of the park in Future World, but World Showcase was all about the princesses.

Living with the Land Closure

Things have been rough at Living with the Land, as it has experienced unexpected downtime for several days. We’re hoping that it comes back really soon, as it is one of my family’s favorite rides in all of Walt Disney World.

Biometric Scans Return

This week, biometric scanners returned at entry points at Walt Disney World theme parks. Now I just hope that my finger hasn’t put on additional pandemic points so it will still match the size it was back in early 2020!

That’s it for this week. Which item are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments.
