Disney World Ticket-Upgrade Policy Change

Effective August 3, 2011, most Walt Disney World tickets will no longer be eligible for upgrades/extensions after their last available day of entry is exhausted. Previously the policy allowed tickets to be upgraded or extended within a 14-day expiration window from the first use.

For example, a guest with a 5-day park ticket on the OLD POLICY:

  • Could upgrade the ticket anytime within 14-days of the original entry, regardless of admissions available on the ticket used.
  • In theory, use the ticket to visit all the parks for 5 days, and one the 6th day purchase an upgrade to more days, park hopping, or water parks and more at a discounted price.

On the NEW POLICY:

  • Must upgrade the ticket before the end of the last day of park entry available (in this example, the 5th day).
  • On the 6th day, would not able to upgrade the ticket with extra days or park hopping or water parks and more.

This change applies to all standard Walt Disney World Magic Your Way admission tickets with the exception of the Florida Resident tickets with their own upgrade policies. There is no change in Annual Pass renewal policy.

  • I’ve always purchased my AP outright, but I’m heading down next week on a 7-day MYW ticket. If I upgrade to an AP, does anyone know if I’ll lose my free dining credits? If so, I’ll likely wait then until the last day.

  • My family is going down in October and was considering upgrading their tickets, so I’ll be sure to let them know about the change. These are the types of changes that sneak up on people – thanks for this!
