The Land of Oz Pop Up Playground at Epcot

In case you’ve been living under a rock (yellow brick?) and hadn’t heard, the major Disney film release this spring is Oz: The Great and Powerful, which explores the classic Oz story from the point of view of the wizard.

As part of the promotion/celebration of this film, a temporary “pop up” playground has been installed at Epcot, themed to the land of Oz. The playground is located on the Imagination Walkway path, in the Future World section of the park.

Much like the pop up Brave interactive experience last year, the Oz land features visual elements related to the film, themed games of chance, and photo spots, plus there’s a rockin’ awesome playground where kids can burn off some steam.

Official dates for the playground installation have not been announced, but it’s expected that this will remain in place throughout the Epcot Flower & Garden Festival, which ends May 19, 2013.

Below is a photo tour of what you can expect to find at the Oz Playground.

  • Where in the park is this located? I’m not familiar with the Imagination Walkway Path? SI that near the the Journey Into Imnagination attaction? If so, does it impede traffic flow for someone coming from say the Canada pavilion, trying to get to the Land pavilion?

    • The Imagination Walkway is the path that you would take if you wanted to get most expediently from Canada to the Imagination/Land area. The playground is not on the walkway, just next to it. The path is still open and guests can still use that method for getting from the Showcase to Future World.

Epcot often uses that area for displays or special events, particularly during Flower & Garden. You may find that the crowds are thicker than normal on the path, but your way should not be blocked at all.

We got to see it when they opened two weeks ago…
they have 4-6 Adirondack chairs under the “tent” made from the balloon attached to the basket for the parents to watch the kids!
