Hi, Everyone! Welcome to the Best Week Ever here at Walt Disney World! This week we’re visiting Magic Kingdom for a fun filled evening of playing with FastPass+ and then heading over to Epcot to check out the new show in Italy, ride some rides, and do some shopping! Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? Well let’s get started! 🙂
Heading into the Magic Kingdom this weekend, I was blazing a trail to the new parade. The Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It! Street Party debuted on October 24, so I was excited to check it out. What did I think? You’ll have to click read more to find out!
Here’s a quick clip of the parade. If I’m honest, I don’t know that I’d have noticed a difference if there hadn’t been a formal announcement. The parade seems very similar except that they’re asking you to send in your photos and tweets. You’re also allowed to cheer to choose the last song from three current songs you might hear on the radio. It’s still a fun party, and I recommend it, but doesn’t feel like it changed much. One big addition is Phineas and Ferb! They were very popular with the kids once the floats stopped.
The biggest change I noticed was that new screens have been added to the floats. They were showing lines from the songs any time I was near them, but they kept saying to watch the screens for your photos. Maybe it wasn’t working yet? Or maybe it was fast and I missed it? In any case, the photos and a more high tech voting solution will be nice additions once they’re in place.
Next we moved on to The Haunted Mansion. I was curious to try out FastPass+ and see if we were still having problems. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it here, but my hubby upgraded his pass, and ever since we’d had issues with making FastPass+ bookings. Well, it ends up that instead of upgrading his pass they issued him a new one. That means I’d been making FastPass+ reservations with his old (dead) pass. When we’d scan our tickets to enter an attraction, mine would work, but his would flash blue. So if you have a similar problem, head to Guest Relations. I thought I was going crazy, so it was nice to finally understand what had happened and have it fixed. The moment of truth arrived and we were both welcomed on the ride with our FastPass+ troubles behind us.
I was glad that we had FastPass+ booked, too, because it was crowded this weekend! Even it’s a small world had a 20 minute wait when we passed by! It was one of those evenings were you were just elbow to elbow walking through the park. I’d also done my new favorite trick of booking my first and second FastPass+ back to back. We arrived just as our window was closing on the first FastPass+ so we were able to do back to back rides. Can you guess what was next??
If you guessed Peter Pan’s Flight, then you win the cupie doll! The wait was well over an hour, so we were lucky to walk right with FastPass+. I still think this is still a great use of one of your FastPass+ choices. Recently, we managed to get a FastPass+ for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train but still ended up waiting almost 20 minutes. But I could be partial since I might be the only person who isn’t a huge Mine Train fan. (I know, I’m a bad blogger!) 🙁
Next we had some time to kill, so we wandered through a very crowded Fantasyland and took some photos. I noticed tons of the Frozen balloon. (below left) Maybe they got in an extra shipment because Elsa will be helping with an ice covered castle soon? Below right is a classic view from Fantasyland that I don’t get to include enough. Maybe a slow news week isn’t such a bad thing!
Of course, what better to do when waiting for a FastPass+ window than eat a funnel cake? At Sleepy Hollow Refreshments you can find these, waffles, and lots of frosty beverages. Below left, you can see the new seasonal beverage and souvenir mug. I’m glad they’re offering something, but I really wish it was more than just the mug from Gaston’s Tavern with a different sticker! Below right is the enormous funnel cake they made for us. Wow!
What was more impressive was the view from the line. While we were waiting for our order, I noticed the sun was setting on the castle. Rather than running to take the same angle I’ve taken so many times, I just took the shot right from where I was standing. I thought this was a fun and different perspective to share with you guys.
Of course, then I ran off after our snack to take the normal, obligatory shot! You can tell the sun was much lower in the sky by then and that the sunset was turning pink. Which one do you like better? 🙂
Finally, it was time to ride The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, where our FastPass+ whisked us to the front of a 45 minute line. I was very impressed with the FastPass+ service this weekend. While we’ve had our challenges with it, I feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel.
By the time we exited the ride they had closed the walkway through the castle in preparation for Wishes. I saw the glorious, empty mural through the castle and asked to go take a photo. I actually had to explain myself to two different cast members before they’d let me near the area. They sure don’t play around when it comes to guest safety! (And don’t we love them for it?) It was totally worth it to share this with you, though!
We decided to shop our way out of the park. I wanted to ask you about the below left photo. Isn’t this the strangest Minnie plush? I can’t figure out her outfit, and the tags didn’t have any information. It looks like bag lady Minnie!? Anyone out there have any idea? (Remember, you can click on any image to see it full-size.) Speaking of bags, the Haunted Mansion Dooney & Bourke bags are still there but getting picked over.
After this we decided to give up on the crowds and start over at Epcot the next day. I reserved our FastPass+, and we arrived fashionably late at 9:20am. This was compounded by the fact that Disney is taking bag check VERY seriously lately. I don’t know what might have happened to cause this, but if you’re visiting soon, expect your bag to fully inspected. By the time we arrived at Spaceship Earth, our FastPass+ window had opened, but we didn’t need them as it was still a walk on.
Next we stopped by Innoventions to play. We really enjoy this area and can always kill time here, but we noticed this morning it wasn’t nearly as crowded as normal. Of course, that meant a quick run to Test The Limits. Since this area is loud and tests breaking points of things, it’s a big draw for kids. That means we normally skip it, but we had a lot of time to play Sunday morning!
As we continued to stroll around the park, we noticed it just wasn’t that busy. It was shocking after seeing the crowds at Magic Kingdom the night before! We had a little time before the World Showcase opened, so I stopped in Mouse Gear to see what was new. Check out this new Figment hat (below left) at $24.95! It was really hard for me not to buy this immediately! I have the sculpted Figment beanie from a couple years ago, but I totally live somewhere cold enough to justify two Figment beanies, right?? Below right you’ll see a weird Minnie Mouse backpack to go with the overpriced tote I showed recently. This is cuter for $39.99, but still odd. Who thought these were a good idea?
Big Hero 6 merchandise has also hit the shelves! I can’t wait to see this movie so that’ll I know these characters. The toys look like lots of fun. I wonder if they’ll be taking over stores in a year like Frozen?
Next, World Showcase was finally open, and we stopped in for the first Canadian Lumberjacks show. It’s worth noting that this show is EXACTLY the same each performance, even jokes that seem spontaneous. It might be something only worth watching once. Since I covered Canada last week I wanted to mention Sbandieratori Di Sansepolcro in Italy today. I’d waited a bit hoping this show might change or improve, but it’s really just flag throwing. I’m easily bored, but lots of people started leaving once the show was a few minutes in. It just isn’t really that fun to watch, but you can be the judge of that:
After watching Sbandieratori Di Sansepolcro we stopped by Crepes des Chefs de France for a crepe. This one is just the sugar flavor, but it was wonderful! One thing I never knew was that they only sell canned soda at this location. I don’t know that I’ve seen canned soda anywhere else in Walt Disney World! Our final stop for this week was Test Track. My hubby normally designs our cars, but I bet you can guess who did this week!
One last shot to share from this week, just before flying through the wall and onto the test track!
That’s everything for this week. Now let’s see what you can expect if you’re visiting next week.
Crowd Calendar: We’re coming up on Jersey Week, so be sure to optimize your plans.
Weather: The weather is getting even cooler! With low’s in the 40’s, even non-Floridians might need to pack a sweater!
Remember: The Walt Disney World Railroad is closed until November 7. I can’t wait for it to reopen. I never realize how much I use it to get around until it’s gone!
Here’s my top tip for this week: I’ve heard that more Haunted Mansion Dooney & Bourke bags will be arriving the first week of November and that this will be the last shipment of the year! Happy hunting for anyone still looking for one.
Do you have any news I missed or any requests for coverage next week? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below, and thanks so much for reading! I’m wishing all of you the Best Week Ever, until next time!
