Changes to 2016 Walt Disney World Magic Your Way Packages

magicyourwayDisney has shared details with travel agents for 2016 Magic Your Way packages. Magic Your Way is any package that includes a room at a Disney-owned and operated resort, the Swan or Dolphin, a Good Neighbor hotel, or a Disney Springs area hotel; and park admission. Packages can be booked through your travel agent or the Walt Disney Travel Company. This also includes all dining plans, which have their own extras. Thank you to Sue Pisaturo at Small World Vacations for the heads up.

Let’s start with the good news: The vouchers for mini-golf have been increased from 2 per room to 4 per room, and are good for play before 4PM at Fantasia Gardens and Winter-Summerland. If you’re an Annual Passholder, remember you get a discount on admission already and it’s good all day and night. Also, under the category of things that make you scratch your head, MYW packages now include 4 vouchers for one day admission at ESPN Wide World of Sports. There’s really not much to do there if you’re not participating in a sporting event. If you have made the trip out, let me know in the comments. Every time I go out there to see what’s up, there’s nothing going on. If your tickets include the Water Park Fun and More option, you already have the option for ESPN WWoS admission, so there’s no real benefit for you unless you’re using all your entitlements for water parks, Oak Trail golf, or DisneyQuest (while it lasts, see below) already and somehow still have time to visit Wide World of Sports too.

Here’s what’s changing: the discount at Splitsville Luxury Lanes (which has a 100% thumbs up rating from Unofficial Guide readers) has been reduced from 20% to 10%, but is now good all day, seven days a week instead of just weekdays before 4PM. Be aware that Splitsville is often booked for corporate events, so if you want to visit, plan ahead. Also at Disney Springs, the discount at Planet Hollywood is now 15% instead of $15.

The following benefits have been removed from Magic Your Way packages:

  • Arcade game card (was a 100 point card per room)
  • Dining discounts at Bongos (was 15%), Fulton’s Crab House (was 10%), and Paradiso 37 (was 20%)
  • Children’s Activity Center Discount (was 15%)
  • Disney Tours discount (was 15% for most tours)
  • DisneyQuest admission vouchers (was 2 per room)
  • Recreation discounts for horseback riding (was 15%), guided bass fishing (was 15%), and marina rentals (was 10%)
  • Spa and salon services discount (was 15% for services 50 minutes or longer)

The elimination of the DisneyQuest vouchers is further indication that facility is on borrowed time. Yes, people have been saying that for years, but believe it this time. It is generally accepted that the DisneyQuest building will be the new location of the NBA Experience coming to Disney Springs. Portobello Yacht Club and Wolfgang Puck Cafe were not listed as losing their discounts for 2016, but they are run by Levy Restaurants, the same company that operates the eliminated restaurants.

Many of the eliminated discounts are available to Annual Passholders, Disney Visa holders, and Disney Vacation Club members, so check your perks if you qualify for one of these.

Booking terms were also changed:

Effective today, packages can be booked up to one day in advance online and by phone. Deposits are $200 (as opposed to one night’s stay for room-only bookings), and final payment in full is due 30 days prior to arrival (was 45 days). Room-only booking balances are still paid in full at check-in. Packages can now held without a deposit for three days unless you’re within the 30 day final payment window. Packages can be cancelled without penalty 31 days before arrival. Packages cancelled 30 to 2 days before will be charged $200. If you cancel 1 day ahead or don’t show for your vacation, all payments are forfeited.

Did anyone else notice the significant increase in room rates? For the same time period in october this year and 2016, some of the (non-discounted) rates are ridiculous, so high that even the discounted rates would be too high. E.g. Pop Century is 175/night vs 133 and AoA is 363/nigiht vs 303. Was hoping to stay at AoA next year since my MiL might be with us, but this is crazy.

The room rates don’t show the standard rooms, they show preferred rooms. I did a mock vacation for the end of Aug (tue-wed, 8 nights) for 2015 and the room (with the discount) was 96/night. The same time frame for 2016 is 121 without the discount…so 15% off puts it at 103 a night, only $7 a night more than this year.

Based on Adam’s comment, I did some digging too. For the same weeks in mid/late August, Pop non discounted standard room goes from $102 to $123 and All Star Sports from $92 to $112 (again, not counting the discounts under either scenario). That’s over a 20% increase!!!

The writer of this should have done their research as well as the agent from its a small world vacations. Annual pass holders can do a package and night as well as the room only rate and package are the same amounts, non discounted of course. So if you want a room only but with package inclusions or even to add dining at a later date you book a ticket less package.

You’re right. AP holder can add a dining package – but for the most part they are not a good deal. I suppose I should have worded it “choosing not to book a package.” At any rate, the package extras overlap with most of Annual Pass benefits, which was my point.

      Thank you for your feedback.

Did I read in the last paragraph correctly that now for room only reservations you need to pay a $200 deposit to book and the total must be paid in full 30 days before check in? That’ll be an adjustment from the previous policy of paying your remaining balance at check in.

    • June 22, 2015 at 11:50 am

Room-only has you pay your balance at check in. Packages have always been paid in full in advance.

That was my understanding… something about the way that was worded made me think that might be changing. Probably just my brain.. Thanks

Is it true that if you book a MYW package that park hoppers are now mandatory and not optional like they were in the past?

    • June 22, 2015 at 11:48 am

No, hoppers are not mandatory. They and WPF&M are both optional add-ons.

    • June 22, 2015 at 1:33 pm

Chris may have been thinking about the 2015 Free Dining offer, which requires hoppers for the first time.

We will very much miss DisneyQuest if it closes. Many good times there with our son. Jim Hill seems to have given it an early obit in 2005/2006 but with them eliminating the DQ in other cities then yes it was inevitable. Made it past the Pleasure Island bloodbath. We have a lot of WP&M credits with no expiration so we’ll just use them up at the water parks.

“final payment in full is due 30 days prior to arrival (was 45 days).”

Does this apply to packages already booked? For example, my current pay-off date is August 4. Will it now be August 19th, or does it stay the same since I am already booked?

    • June 23, 2015 at 9:34 am

I’m wondering the same thing on our booked vacation for late August. However, when I logged in and hit the ‘make a payment’ button, the due dates remained the same, 45 days before check in. Guess we’re not that lucky! 🙁

      • June 23, 2015 at 11:14 am

It’s for new 2016 bookings. Disney can’t change the terms of previously booked trips.

  • June 25, 2015 at 12:58 pm

Wait….Portobello and Wolfgang Cafe are closing? I don’t remember seeing this before?! When is this happening? Thanks for the info!!

  • June 29, 2015 at 11:14 pm

I was pricing out different April 2016 MYW packages and on every one it asked for a $277 deposit instead of $200. Not a huge difference but I wonder why…
