How Did The Disneyland Crowd Calendar Do Last Week?

Last week, Disneyland crowds surged on the weekend which was surprising given that most annual passholders were blocked out. During the week crowds were within close range of what the Disneyland Crowd Calendar predicted with the only exception being Tuesday when Disneyland wait times pushed the resort-wide crowd level two points higher.

Blockouts for Southern California Select passholders were not enough to keep the Disneyland crowd below a ‘9’ on our scale last Sunday. Space Mountain averaged 69 minutes while the Halloween themed version of Haunted Mansion had the highest average wait of 84 minutes.

Monday’s crowds were significantly lower than what we saw on Sunday including average wait times like 45 minutes at Space Mountain and 37 at Haunted Mansion. Mickey’s Halloween Party at Disneyland Park kept the crowd levels lower during the day.

Tuesday brought more moderate crowd levels although Disneyland was more crowded than predicted. Mr Toad’s Wild Ride and Pirates of the Caribbean were standouts with averages of 24 and 26 minutes respectfully.

Wednesday (and Thursday) had the lowest crowds of the week with significantly lower wait times than what we saw on the weekend. Space and Splash Mountain averaged 36 minutes while California Screamin’ averaged only 9 minutes.

Disneyland closed at 6:00 pm to guests without tickets to Mickey’s Halloween Party on Thursday which kept attraction wait times relatively low throughout the day. Wait times at Disney California Adventure stayed low as well with averages like 20 minutes at Tower of Terror and 35 minutes at Toy Story Midway Mania.

Friday’s crowds were slightly busier as we approached the weekend. Disneyland hosted another Halloween Party but the park didn’t close to regular guests until 7:00 pm. Indiana Jones Adventure averaged 40 minutes (predicted 28) and Matterhorn Bobsleds averaged 30 (predicted 24).

Despite being a blockout date for most passholders Saturday’s crowds were substantial at both parks, much busier than the Disneyland Crowd Calendar expected. Sixteen attractions at Disneyland park hit crowd level ’10’s including Splash Mountain at 86 minutes and Star Tours at 54.

What to Expect This Week
October 25 to 31, 2015

The last week of October brings the last of the Mickey’s Halloween Parties and the busiest of the Halloween crowds. Expect the parks to be busy but festive.

    10.22.15 – along with the other Blog post regarding Space Mountain, I happened to get a FP which included the “chip” inside. It appears they are going RFID now for testing purposes.
