In Case You Missed It: News and Rumors – Week of May 18, 2018

This weekend is Memorial Day Weekend. While many of you, myself included, are traveling to vacation destinations, (three guesses to where I’m headed), it’s a time to also reflect on those who have served that we have lost. Let us remember those who have served for our country’s freedoms.

This week, learn what new device Disney Research has created, see what Universal may have up its sleeve to “combat” Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and more.

In Case You Missed It – Disney and Universal Orlando News and Rumors

According to Len, there was a new patent filed that could be related to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. It could be the latest sign they’re trying to build lightsabers for Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge.

Pandora – The World of Avatar helped Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s attendance rise approximately 15%, according to TEA. Wow!

Disney Research has created “Stickman,” an acrobatic robot. I wonder what they have in mind for this new creation.

Lots of stock market fun this week, as Netflix passed Disney briefly this week as the number one media company in the world.

Looks like we won’t be getting any more The Chew episodes live from Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival anymore. ABC has cancelled the show.

Right now, Solo is tracking to make anywhere from $130 million to $150 million this weekend. Will you be seeing the film?

Star Wars Celebration 2019 will be taking place in Chicago! Have you attended one of these events? What was it like?

It’s been confirmed that they are working on a Boba Fett movie.

The war certainly isn’t over. Comcast states that they are ready with their own bid for 21st Century Fox.

The latest Universal rumor…they could be interested at bringing in a Star Trek land. Would this interest you?

I have to say that Star Trek might be the final straw that gets me to get over my anti-Universal bias and head there. I enjoyed the Harry Potter books & movies but not enough to make the journey — however having seen every original Trek, every Next Gen and all the movies (good, bad, and ugly), this could finally do it.

Star Trek Land – that sounds interesting – I would really really like to visit that. Can’t wait. I too have watched all Star Trek episodes and films several times over and have experienced the Star Trek attraction in Disneyland many years ago (on our honeymoon).

Star Trek? Yes please!!! I’ll always be a Disney Girl and I bleed pixie dust, but I’m totally cool with spreading the love to Universal for 1-2 days each trip. They have killer coasters, too, and I love Jurassic Park and the water rides! I can imagine the photo op now with a chance to sit on the bridge in the Captains chair.

Engage, Ms./Mr. Universal Design Team Doppelgänger to Disney Imagineers! Engage! 🙂

Imagine how many “bridge crew uniform” shirts they’d sell in a Star Trek land…
