One other reason Solo did not do as well at the box office – small town theatres did not and will not be able to show Solo. Bad enough that other Star War’s movies had to be shown for 4 or 5 weeks. In a town of 10,000 by the 3rd week there are only 10 or so people in the audience so forcing it for so long was not very profitable for the theatres. Now they cannot even get Solo. It cannot be the cost of distribution any more – the digital media is nowhere near as expensive to distribute as big heavy film cans. So maybe the article is right, poor marketing decisions.
