Digital Key Option Now Available at All Walt Disney World Resort Hotels

Back in April, it was announced that the Walt Disney World Resort would begin to implement a new Digital Key option for resort hotel Guests.  The new digital key offering has allowed Guests to use their My Disney Experience app to unlock their hotel room in a seamless manner to add ease and flexibility to the resort experience. Now, this option has rolled out to all Walt Disney World Resort Hotels.

To use the digital key, Guests can choose to opt in and activate the feature on their check-in day through a brief set up process in the app. Once you get to your room, Guests will need to tap the “Unlock Door” button and then simply hold you phone against the door lock.

This technology isn’t just for opening your resort room door. Guests will also be able to use their digital key to unlock the hotel entrance gate and common area doors that require the use of a key, including pools, fitness centers, elevators and club level lounges. Those who have checked in online can even be able to use their digital key to bypass the need to visit the front desk and go directly to their room when it is ready.

For those who want to learn more about how this new Digital Key option works, here is as brief video:

Don’t worry MagicBand fans! Guests may still use MagicBands to get into rooms, if they so choose!

If you want to take advantage of Digital Key, make sure that you have the latest version of the My Disney Experience app downloaded on your phone and you will be able to be able to use this handy feature.

  • I agree with the ease of magic band. I came home from WDW wishing there was a magic band for every day life!

  • And how many peoples’ phones are totally dead by the time they return from the parks? Lol!!

I think having the MDE app as an extra way to access things is great, but Magic Bands are better. If they need to charge for MB, I’m cool with a nominal fee.

  • I agree. If you’re staying at a hotel you already have a free Magicband right now. That’s more convenient than getting out your phone, opening an app, navigating to the right screen and then holding the phone to the door.
By the time I’m done with all that, my son will already be in the room, since he loves opening the door with his Magicband.

  • Anyone taking bets on when this becomes the default and Magic Bands are only available for purchase?

    • that was my guess!
It seems so useless to me. The magic band works great and is easier than the phone. I would never trust something in the app to work, MDE has so many technical issues!
