Disney Store Merchandise Report – October 2019

Welcome to our monthly feature, the Disney Store merchandise report, where we look at merchandise that’s available in the physical store locations in the United States. There is some overlap on Disney-branded items with what’s offered in the stores in the Disney theme parks and resorts, and there is lots of overlap with what’s offered online at shopDisney.com, but not everything that’s online is in the stores, not everything that’s in the stores is online, not everything that’s in the stores is in the parks, and so on.

Photos of the in-store merchandise come from my “home” Disney Store location, the flagship store in Times Square, New York City.

October News

Move over Halloween, Christmas is on the way. There is still a substantial Halloween presence in the Disney Stores, but stocks are dwindling and the costumes are getting slightly less rack space. Meanwhile, the Christmas merchandise is slowly emerging. And in some cases Halloween and Christmas are living together side-by-side.

The Lion King merchandise from the summer is almost gone. The Toy Story 4 merchandise is on it’s way out, though the major display items are still present (giant Forky, we love you so). The big tie-in presence now is Frozen II which is making itself known, but not in the entirely aggressive way that Toy Story 4 did. And Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is staking it’s claim on the universe. There’s a movie premier sweepstakes related to the Frozen and Star Wars releases.

A new line of princess-inspired make-up is now available. Let us know if you try it!

And there is new store-specific merchandise, including a plush Mickey with New York on his foot. If you live in another major city, we’d love to hear whether your store has new site-specific items.

Halloween

Get your Halloween costumes now! Or wait until they get marked down in a few weeks! Here’s what’s left.

Christmas

Next month Disney will be all about Christmas. Here is the beginning of the onslaught.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Frozen II

Glam for Girls

Disney is offering a line of girls’ dresses that are princess-inspired, but not costumes. With many, like the Snow White-inspired apple dress or the Minnie-inspired big bow, you might not know they were Disney-related unless you asked. As the mom of three girls, I love this strategy. The child gets to think they’re wearing princess gear, but the dresses still look lovely enough for a fancy family event.

LEGO

Likely related to Christmas, the LEGO selection has been beefed, up particularly with the higher-end items like the $300+ Magic Kingdom castle and the $800+ Millennium Falcon.

Colourpop Makeup

This makeup line is part of the Disney Designer collection, which also includes princess dolls.

Check back next month to see the full line of Christmas gear!
