In Case You Missed It: News and Rumors – Week of April 10, 2020

How are you all holding up? We’re another week down with all of this social distancing. I’m getting through just by focusing on one day at a time. What are you doing to get by?

This weekend is Easter…and I’m sad because it means that my favorite parade, the Easter Parade that takes place at the Magic Kingdom isn’t happening. I’ve always loved this since I was a little girl, watching on TV and wish that Disney would bring it back for ABC…or even Disney+.

This week, see who has been named to write an upcoming Disney+ series, find out how to make a delicious treat from Universal Orlando, and more.

In Case You Missed It – Disney and Universal Orlando News and Rumors

Bob Iger gave a very interesting interview with Barron’s, discussing the future of what could happen at the Disney theme parks when they do reopen. What do you think?

It’s estimated that it may take the Disney theme parks a while to recover from the closure…right now, the estimate is two years.

Disney is suspending the remainder of its internship programs starting April 18.

I have a friend who is exceedingly happy about this news…Quests of Yore, from Onward, is going to be released as an actual board game! Would you play this?

Disney Animation is debuting a series of weekly animated shorts called, At Home With Olaf. Josh Gad has even resumed his role as the voice of Olaf, working from home on this project!

The show that gave us Neil Patrick Harris may be rebooted for Disney+, this time, Doogie Howser may feature a female lead. Thoughts on this latest reboot?

If you missed The Simpsons short that played before Onward, called Playdate With Destiny it will now be able to be seen on Disney+. (And you really should watch it, because it’s actually really good….was jarring to see it before a Pixar film though.)

Bill Farmer, the voice of Goofy, will be a part of a new Disney+ show with astounding canines in odd and adorable jobs called It’s a Dog’s Life this May. Will you watch this one?

Yikes….this poor film has just gotten the short end of the stick. After being delayed from last year, Artemis Fowl, which was supposed to be released in theaters this year, is now gonna go straight to Disney+. It did not pass go and did not collect $200…..

We need to wrap our heads around pro sports, schools and yes even amusement parks being shut down completely until a proven vaccine can be administered widespread as well as verified. Couple that with Great Depression-level unemployment as well as the sheer level of prep it takes to keep the Parks running daily (never mind retooling after months off without international or student CMs able to return). The article that ventures two years before the Parks return to normal is wildly optimistic.
    Cherish your memories.

Even if it takes the long estimate of 18 months to come up with a treatment and/or vaccine, two years seem about right. If it is more like 12 months (or shorter), then I would suspect next year’s attendance to recover quickly. The 50th anniversary of MK will boost attendance, and if that alone doesn’t do it, Disney will put out discounts to fill the resorts and parks.

The Barron’s article is behind a pay-to-see wall.
