Best Theme Park Merch Ever? Star Tours Starspeeder 3000 Playset Review

The 2024 edition D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, formally known as D23 Expo, has come and gone. But before the convention, Disney dropped a bombshell that Star Tours fans have been waiting for for years; a brand new Starspeeder 3000 playset would be released at D23. That’s right, Starspeeder 3000 from the beloved original version of Star Tours. Even better, the playset would feature a screen inside the cabin that plays the entire original ride film. This news caught the attention of both Star Wars collectors and Disney theme park fans, and thankfully the playset does not disappoint.

The Starspeeder 3000 playset retailed at $300, and the thing is gigantic at just about 2 feet long. Besides the aforementioned video, the Starspeeder 3000 also comes to life with lighting effects on the front, rear engines and interior. The paintjob seems accurate and the blue stripes have a shiny metallic look to them. The decals of the logo and other markings are crisp and look fantastic.

The Starspeeder 3000 playset also includes R2-D2 and R-3X (aka Captain Rex) figures, which are fully posable and high quality. Each of the 25 seats inside the cabin fit the standard Star Wars 3.75-inch scale figures, and everyone gets their own seatbelt. Also, the doors open! There’s a button on the back of the Starspeeder which opens the doors and plays the iconic Star Tours jingle when pressed.

There’s so many details to discover. They even got the flooring right, which shows how much love and care went into the design of this thing. I’m a child of the 80s and Star Tours was one of my favorite rides growing up, so grabbing this at D23 was hard to resist. The Starspeeder 3000 playset is limited to 3000 pieces, but it is believed a non-limited edition version will be released in 2025. I hope that’s the case because demand for the playset is through the roof. There was limited stock available on the Disney Store website on Monday, but hundreds of thousands of people descended on the site and playset quickly sold out, as it did at D23.

For a full review of every feature, please watch this video we posted on our YouTube channel. I go over every feature and show the impressive video and lighting effects.

What do you think? Did you pick up a Starspeeder 3000 playset? Will you grab one if they re-release next year?

  • Very agree. Good God this rules! Merchandising going HAM unlike every other department. I really hope they don’t release more because I don’t want to have to think about it.
