Who’s been busy celebrating? The anniversary of the 1964 World’s Fair AND Disney’s Animal Kingdom were this week. Did anybody get any cake? I seemed to have missed out.

Anywho…here’s all the fun spectacular stuff you may have missed out on seeing this week!

In Case You Missed It – Disney News and Rumors

Are you a fan of Raglan Road at Downtown Disney? It was named The Best Restaurant by Orlando Magazine. A big congrats to them! To see the other Walt Disney World restaurants that took home awards, make sure to check out this article.

James Cameron had a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) last week and in it, he briefly discussed Avatarland. Here’s his quote about the land of Pandora, currently being built at Disney’s Animal Kingdom:

Well, Disney are doing a first-rate job designing it. It’s going to be completely spectacular. It will be like being on Pandora. You will see real floating mountains. It’s going to be a very magical experience just to be there and walk around. And the two rides will be absolute state of the art. But I don’t how much they want to say about what those rides specifically will be, so I probably shouldn’t say anymore than that. But from what I’ve seen so far, it will be amazing. I will be sad it’s in Florida, because I won’t be able to go a lot to it.

We know there are a lot of changes taking place for Disney Springs, but one of the biggest will be the addition of new restaurants and lounges scattered throughout the popular districts. While we don’t exactly know what restaurants will be added to the mix just yet, this article shares some of the rumored options. These are in addition to the rumored Patina Group restaurant (the company that brings us Via Napoli) that is slated to be constructed in the area too. (Which I discussed in a previous In Case You Missed It.)

Making the rounds this week was a Smarter Travel article that stated that Walt Disney World was among the “10 Most Disappointing Destinations in the World.” But it makes me wonder, is it disappointing overall to the author, or just because of poor planning? We all know how not properly planning a Walt Disney World vacation can sometimes lead to less than thrilling experiences. (Planning is why we’re all here, right?) Does properly planning your vacation (not just to Walt Disney World, but anywhere), lead to a better experience? Just something to ponder.

Yay! “it’s a small world” is officially 50! Parade had a fantastic article with wonderful photographs of this classic attraction.

Did you know that Mary Blair, who was integral to the design of “it’s a small world”, got a lot of her artistic influence from a trip to South America with Walt and a few others from the studio? Read about how. (And if you want to learn more about this particular goodwill tour, make sure to watch the movie, Walt and El Grupo, which discusses, in detail, all about this trip.)

Would you go see a movie based off “it’s a small world”? According to Deadline, Disney is in the process to make that movie a reality.

While many were busy celebrating the glorious achievements of the 1964 World’s Fair, another great achievement took place too. Disney’s Animal Kingdom celebrated its 16th Birthday! Here’s a look at some of the great details that you can find in this wonderful park. What’s your favorite little detail? Let me know in the comments.

One of the best areas of a Disney Cruise ship is the spa. There is nothing better than getting pampered while looking at the ocean. So, I was happy to see that Senses Spa was named as one of the “10 Best Cruise Ship Spas” by USA Today.

The Orlando Sentinel ran an intriguing article stating that over the past few years, Universal Orlando has gained market share, while Walt Disney World (and Sea World) have lost. For those who are into this sort of data, this is a must read article.

Who wants to debate? Buzzfeed (oh, good old Buzzfeed) shares with us apparently “The Definitive Ranking Of The 102 Best Animated Disney Songs.” Let the disagreements begin!

What did we miss? Send your idea attached to this wicked cool Star Wars R2D2 Measuring Cup set (gotta get ready for Star Wars Weekends somehow) and send both to blog@touringplans.com with the words “In Case You Missed It” in the subject line.

Hey Rikki – about the Smarter Travel article, I am a big planner, but I’m not sure that is at the heart of the very grouchy writer’s article. I completely believe that WDW is at least my happiest place on earth, and I do not have children. I don’t think it’s for everyone though – you have to be willing to be happy and have the child in you brought out. Some people are too cool for that. 🙂

That’s interesting about Walt’s anti-nazi tour of South America.
I was glad to see Oliver and Company’s Why Should I worry rank pretty high on the song list

I love Oliver and Company! It was one of the first movies I ever saw in theaters. So, “Why Should I Worry” is a favorite of mine too!
