Daisy Lauren’s Best Week Ever: March 19, 2015

Hi, Everyone! Welcome to the Best Week Ever here at Walt Disney World. This week we’re visiting the  Magic Kingdom, making a quick stop at Downtown Disney, and spending an evening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Not to mention we’re enjoying a quiet dinner at Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano! Who is ready for some fun?

I normally try to put things in order, but this week I decided to start with this killer sunset instead! From all the way in Tomorrowland I had no idea the sky was lighting up until we breezed by on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. Luckily, I managed to snap this one shot! It seemed like the perfect way to start this week. 🙂

We arrived at Magic Kingdom earlier in the day do take video of the new hub expansion. It’s amazing how different everything looks now! The below video takes you from the left side planter in front of the castle all the way through the new gardens and then ends in front of the right side planter. It gives you a good look at all the progress and a bonus view of some of the Dapper Day outfits.

After taking this video I continued through the castle to go ride some rides. Since I still had my fisheye lens mounted I snapped this beauty just before walking through the tunnel into Fantasyland. Who wishes they had this view right now?

Are you tired of seeing photos of the newly renovated Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid?  Gosh, I hope not because I love it so much I think I’m going to have to ride it every time I visit! (Especially now that my FastPass+ is working like a charm!) Plus it’s always fun for a ride to present an new photography challenge. The photo below left is similar to one I included last week, but I like this one better. Which one is your favorite?

Over at The Haunted Mansion my FastPass+ again worked flawlessly! I barely had time to take these queue photos because we were on the ride so quickly. The sign below left has been up for over a month but I’m not sure if I’ve included it for you guys yet? The photo below right shows Letoa’s grave without a rose. I haven’t seen one there lately. I wonder if they’ve stopped doing that?

Out last Fastpass+ was for Peter Pan’s Flight and we were off the Neverland in less than three minutes. I have to say, the Fastpass+ system is incredible when it works! I didn’t have a single issue this week. Here’s hoping that my lucky streak continues! 😉  The photo below is my favorite one from this week and my current desktop wallpaper. I’ve always loved the mermaids in Peter Pan. What’s your favorite odd, little part of a ride?

With that we decided to head out for the night. The sun was just setting and turning the sky a lovely shade of blue. While the highs have been creeping up to nearly 90 degrees lately it has been very mild in the evenings. With a little breeze in the air it was tough to make ourselves leave! Darn grown up responsibilities! 😉

As we were waiting for the ferry boat back to the Transportation and Ticket Center the sun was setting behind the Grand Floridian making the perfect Florida sky. Wow, was it a pretty night! It looked like a postcard. 🙂

A little later in the week we had some folks to visit over at Pop Century Resort. Since we were there we ate at the Everything Pop Food Court for the first time in ages. Below left is a BBQ Pork sandwich for $9.49. Below right is roasted vegetable pasta for $9.69. We were actually surprised by how tasty these were! While we won’t be rushing back but this food court is fine in a pinch. What’s your favorite thing to get here?

Bright and early this weekend I saw a message on Twitter that had me running for the car! Duffy tsum tsums were at Once Upon a Toy at Downtown Disney. I’ve made no secret that I’m a Duffy fan so I couldn’t get there fast enough! Luckily there were still a few available when I arrived. The cast member said they were surprised to see Duffy on the shelf and that to their knowledge he was still exclusive to Hong Kong Disneyland. (Here’s hoping for an accidental shipment of Shellie May!)

Next it was time to head to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While I was the proud owner of a Tower of Terror Fastpass+ I had no intentions of actually riding! However, I was tagging along to hold bags for friends and take photos. However, when we arrived the line was very long for Fastpass+. Apparently something had broken on the ride and only one side was running. This led to a 45 minute FP+ wait and a 120 minute standby wait! There was no way we were waiting so we set out in search of something else to do. What is the longest you’ve ever waited for a ride?

That something else ended up being Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage. I can’t even remember the last time I’ve seen this show. But it was letting in without a wait just as we walked up, so it was kismet! We were seated behind a group of little girls that just loved every second. We had more fun watching them! 😀

We visited Writer’s Stop while killing time before our next fastpass. While we’d just planned on some air conditioning and a cold drink, this little beauty somehow ended up on our tab. Ignore the color because this is actually citrus flavored macaroon and it’s DIVINE! Seriously, if you’re visiting in the next few months try one of these! We also decided we were hungry enough that we were going to need dinner. So we hopped onto the My Disney Experience App and just a few short minutes later had a table confirmed for dinner. Like I’ve said, it’s really amazing when it works!

Next was our entire reason for visiting, FP+ for Toy Story Midway Mania! I decided to not take photos or video and actually try to get a good score this time. (Here is a video I took recently if you’d like to see it.) However, it didn’t make a bit of difference! My score was still abysmal. I suppose I should stick to shooting a camera! 😉

Afterwards, we decided to arrive early for our reservation at Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano. Despite being nearly 30 minutes earlier than our reserved time they were able to seat us right away. If you’ve never dined here it’s quiet and has a purposely tacky decor. If you aren’t in the mood to pay Brown Derby prices this is your next best bet for good table service food in this park.

521 522

We decided on the wild mushroom flatbread and margherita flatbread. Each were $12.99, but the wild mushroom was the clear taste test winner! I’d even go so far as to say if anyone in your party is a big mushroom fan then I’d go out of my way to stop by here on your next trip. The service was excellent, but even after “saving room” for dessert nothing looked special enough to try. Of course, that’s hardly a negative with all the other amazing desserts all over Walt Disney World.

As we exited the restaurant it was very near time for the park to close and we noticed that Cinderella’s carriage didn’t have a line. Who could resist that? Below is a close up photo of the carriage and glass slipper. I couldn’t resist looking inside the carriage. Oddly, there were no seats and just a large arrangement of white flowers.

We shopped a little as we made our way out and I spotted a couple of new, pretty t-shirts. Below left is a Mickey shirt that looks like it’s for Easter. It retails for $36.95 and you can order with barcode 400008 920360. Below right is this fabulous new Frozen shirt! It also retails for $36.95 but I didn’t take a photo of the barcode. Let me know in the comments if you’re interested in ordering it and I’ll be sure to get the code for you! (Sorry I missed that!)

That’s everything for this week. Now let’s see what you can expect if you’re visiting next week.

Crowd Calendar: This week will be busy, but not as insane as the following week. If you’re visiting this week have your Touring Plans ready and remember you’re the lucky ones!

Weather: It looks like it won’t be quite as hot this week, but be prepared for rain!

Remember: It’s that time of year when there are cheerleaders all over the parks. Honestly, I haven’t noticed them being disruptive at all. But then, I’m not staying in a Disney Resort! 😉

Here’s my top tip for this week: I can’t recommend last minute dining enough! Even on the busiest days we’ve been able to sneak in reservations at great restaurants. Just keep checking on your phone until you get what you want. I’ve never been able to book Be Our Guest in advance but I’ve seen reservations available consistently if you’re flexible.

Do you have any news I missed or any requests for coverage next week? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below, and thanks so much for reading! I’m wishing all of you the Best Week Ever, until next time!

TTA and a fisheye lens to start, I thought you were Tom Bricker for a minute.

Hi Liz- omigosh! I was thrilled and worried all at once by your comment. Tom is absolutely my spirit animal and I’m thrilled that anyone for a second could mistake me for him! But I wouldn’t want to copy anyone. I’m still taking it as a huge compliment, though! Thanks! 🙂

Thanks for that video of the hub! I can’t wait to see it in person. It looks like it will handle the crowds much better now.

Hi Susan! Yes – it does fill up but it handles the crowds much better. I have some coverage on it this week.

I look forward to this blog entry each week. Great job and love the video of the hub. We will be visiting in June and can’t wait to see it. Looks like they have created a lot more area for viewing. Also on a personal note, love the picture from Beauty and the Beast. My cousin is the 3rd from the right and what a great surprise to find him here!

Hi Kelly! I’m so glad you read every week. I love that! 🙂 And I can’t believe you’re related to someone in the BatB cast! My mom love, love, loves that show!! How neat!

When we were there last week, I was really impressed by the hub. What I loved most was seeing all the people using it for a resting/picnic spot during the day. Unfortunately, it felt like fireworks viewing was just as crowded as ever. Keep in mind that the new viewing spots are FastPass only. We’ve been using the same fireworks spot for years (on a little wall at the bottom of the ramp from the Crystal Palace) and actually got kicked out of it by cast members. We tried two different spots standing along fences after and got kicked out of those as well, because we were “blocking access to first aid”. In the past, they’ve always left people along fences alone unless you were actually IN the walkways. Has anyone else experienced this lately?

Funny you mention this – I’ll be covering the fireworks viewing areas this week. So far I totally agree with you!

Oh, also, I LOVE the Frozen shirt. That’s lovely!

I want to second your comment about using MDE App for last minute dining reservations! We were there in February for the Princess Half-Marathon weekend and were looking for dinner suggestions. I hopped on MDE and found a reservation for dinner both Friday & Saturday nights, at two different restaurants we wouldn’t have tried normally. It worked like a charm and made everything so easy!

    • March 23, 2015 at 7:12 pm

Hi Melissa! I’m glad you had a good experience with the app. I had lots of trouble, but now that they have it working it’s been great! 🙂 I’ve had the same experience. We end up at spot we might not have tried but end up loving it.
