Details on the Updated Cinderella Castle Lighting Show – “A Frozen Holiday Wish”
The Holiday Season begins in a little over a week and a half at Walt Disney World! (Wait…what?!) One of the most incredible aspects of Disney’s holiday festivities is the Cinderella Castle holiday lighting show at the Magic Kingdom, which this year will see a change.
For the festive season, Cinderella Castle lights up each evening with more than 200,000 white shimmering lights, causing the castle to appear as though it has been frosted over. The effect is simply stunning, and photos do not do it justice. Prior to this year, Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother performed the magic to make the castle shimmer.
However, in 2014 a brand new version of the show features a Frozen twist: “A Frozen Holiday Wish” will debut on November 5. The new show will feature Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and even Olaf; it will end with the traditional castle lighting ceremony, this time with Elsa turning the palace into an icy wonderland.
“A Frozen Holiday Wish” will take place nightly until December 31.
In addition, as a reminder for those who are fans of Frozen and would like to see Olaf, Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff, you’ll be able to do so by watching “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime” Parade, which is performed during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (a separately ticketed party that takes place select nights from November 7 through December 19 in 2014), as well as during normal park hours from December 20-31.
It definitely appears that this year is going to be a very Frozen Christmas at the Magic Kingdom!

V, Micki: TP for 11/13, for example, says the showtimes are at 6:15 and 8 pm: http://touringplans.com/magic-kingdom/showtimes/date/2014-11-13. Question for others: does this mean the castle is lit at 6:15, and then at some point they turn off the lights, and then light it again at 8 pm? Seems weird that the lights would go off in between.
Patrick, I think I have the answer to your question. The park closes at 7 that night and then there is a MVMCP. So the answer to your question I believe is yes they shut them. They do it once for the day guests and again for the party goers.

My son is a huge Frozen fan and will LOVE this! We are doing the whole Frozen thing for Halloween with him as Olaf and our Labrador as Sven.
We are attending the MVMCP. Where would be a good viewing spot for the 8:00 Lighting show followed by the Christmas parade? Would it be possible to view both from the same location or should we move for the parade?

It sounds cheesy, but the first time I walked down Main Street and saw the lights on the castle like this, I was close to tears, it is just that lovely. It helped that I didn’t know it would happen, which made for a lovely element of surprise. 🙂 This will be the first Christmas in years that I won’t be living in Central Florida and I’m legitimately disappointed that I’ll miss Elsa lighting the castle. Along with, you know, everything else about Disney during the holidays.
