Disneyland Preview — Week of September 1, 2018

Labor Day weekend makes the end of the busy season, Haunted Mansion Holiday debuts for the year, and Dia de los Muertos kicks off! Read on to find out about this and more in this week’s Disneyland preview.

Special Events and Notes

There are just a few days left this weekend to visit a bug’s land, as the great shoe of progress will take it’s final step on the area on September 4 to make way for future Marvel attractions. If you want to give it one last visit, Monday will be its last day of operations.

There likewise remains a couple of days left for Pixar Fest, which runs through Labor Day. This festival includes Pixar-themed fireworks (Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular), in addition to other Pixar-focused activities and opportunities, like character greetings and so on. There will also be special dining opportunities available, including Alien Pizza Planet at Disneyland Park, and the Annual Passholder Corner continues until the festival’s end.  It’s located at Paradise Gardens, so make sure you passholders stop by for your Incredibles-themed decals and a special photo opportunity. More details on what to expect at the festival can be found here.

Finally, on Friday, Haunted Mansion Holiday opens for the year, and the Dia de los Muertos celebration kicks off at Disneyland at Zocalo Park in Frontierland. Make sure you check both of them out.

Monday will see relatively high crowds for the holiday, but the rest of the week looks fantastic from a crowd standpoint. In fact, Wednesday and Thursday will see the lowest crowds — level 2 — that we’ve seen in many months.  Should be a great week to visit!

Full details, including park-by-park crowd levels, are available on our Crowd Calendar.

The week should be dry and pretty consistent, with temperatures ranging from the mid 80s to the low 90s.  Labor Day should be nice, with a high of 85.

As always, it’s wise to double check the weather as the day of your visit approaches. Check out the most up-to-date forecast here.

With lower crowds, Disneyland will begin the pull back on entertainment offerings during the week — for example, Fantasmic! will not be shown at all Tuesday through Thursday, nor will there be any fireworks those nights. When the fireworks do return on Friday, by the way, it will be the Remember… Dreams Come True show that you know and love. Detailed show schedules, including smaller diversions like The Straw Hatters can be found here.

Show Sat Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri
Pixar Play Parade 2 2 2 1 1 1 2
Fantasmic! 2 2 2 0 0 0 2

All other passes are honored every day this week. For those of you buying tickets as day guests, single-day tickets are at Peak Price ($135/$127) Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Regular Price ($117/$110) on Friday, and Value Price ($97/$91) the remainder of the week.

As per usual, the parks will open one hour early for eligible guests at Disneyland Park Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and at Disney California Adventure Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Resort guests can take advantage of these hours every day of their stay for Extra Magic Hours, while guests eligible for Magic Mornings can use that benefit one day at Disneyland Park only. Full park hours can be found by clicking on each date in the Crowd Calendar.

The Enchanted Tiki Room is in the midst of a refurbishment through September 21, the Main Street Cinema is offline through September 27, and the Haunted Mansion will be down through September 7 to switch over to Haunted Mansion Holiday.  Also, the Matterhorn is down indefinitely; we’ll let you know when Disney announces its anticipated return.  Space Mountain will be down Thursday to switch over to the Ghost Galaxy version, but will be back up the following day.

Over at California Adventure, World of Color remains offline until further notice — we’ll let you know when we have a better idea of when it will return as well, but we are not anticipating it back until the latter part of the year. All other attractions are currently operational, but as always, be aware that refurbishments can pop up unexpectedly, so check out our refurbishments page for details on exactly what will be down and for how long.

That should do it for this week’s preview. Check back next week and every week to find out what’s coming down the pike. Got questions? Aware of anything else that prospective guests should know about? Let us know in the comments.
