Disney’s Contemporary Resort Room Review

With over 20 resorts to choose from at Walt Disney World, choosing your home away from home at the most magical place on earth can be a little overwhelming. To make the decision process a little easier, and to guarantee that you’re fully informed, we’re covering what you need to know about the new “incredible” rooms at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort – The Basics

In addition to being a Deluxe Resort, The Contemporary is also one of Disney World’s original resorts having opened alongside the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.

Through the years, the resort’s signature A-frame design has become as much of an icon as Cinderella Castle.

While the monorail running through Contemporary’s atrium is a huge perk, the resort also sits next to the Magic Kingdom offering stunning views of the park and the convenience of a walking path to the front gate.

Inside the resort’s Grand Canyon concourse, guests will find a 90-foot mosaic designed by Disney Legend Mary Blair of “it’s a small world” fame, as well as a variety of shops and restaurants.

During the summer of 2021, rooms inside of The Contemporary’s A-frame were refurbished and reopened with a brand-new Pixar’s The Incredibles overlay.

Our park reporter Chrissy recently booked a stay at one of the Contemporary’s new Pixar-inspired rooms. Here’s a look at these new accommodations:

Our Contemporary Resort Room

Chrissy checked into Room 4707 on the 11th floor of the resort’s Main Tower.

In terms of location, the time it took for her to reach the following locations from the room were as follows:

  • 2 minute 31 seconds from room to bus stop
  • 13 minutes 15 seconds from room to Main Street, U.S.A. (this included security and the time it took to tap in at the Magic Kingdom turnstiles).
  • Less than 3 minutes to get to food, shopping, and pools

This particular room was a Lake View room with 2 queen beds, 1 day bed, a balcony, and an adjoining room.

If you don’t include the hallway, the room measured 17 ft. x 14 ft. 3 in; but if you do include the hallway, it’s 27 ft. 11 in. long.

The Bathroom

So Chrissy and our team LOVED this bathroom. It may be worth an article all on its own.

Let’s start with the shower. It was brand-new and measured more than 6 feet long!

Now, even though the usual H2O shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were mounted to the wall (Boo!), this massive shower had an equally massive shelf for storing all your stuff.

The shower also has two shower heads, one of which is removable.

The new vanity features double sinks that, thankfully, replaced those prior square bowl sinks that never drained. There’s also adequate storage underneath, and we just loved this most fantastic monorail design on the mirror!

The water closet/private toilet room is separated from the rest of the bathroom by sliding doors. In addition to a colorful print of Jack Jack, this space is also where guests can find additional towels.

The Hallway & Storage

Across from the bathroom and along the hallway is closet space which, when opened, reveals images of the Parr Family’s super suits, boots, and masks.

Measuring 6 ft. and 9 in. wide, there’s a ton of space and is also where guests can find the room’s extra blanket, pillow, and a Conair streamer.

Next to the closet is an additional storage cabinet measuring 6 ft. 9 in. long x 15 in. wide and which houses the room’s safe, extra drawers, and a Conair hairdryer.
The coffee station space standing next to the storage cabinet measured 19.5 in. x 22.5 in. and comes with a Keurig coffee maker, Keurig pods, cups, lids, and sugars.
Underneath is where guests will find the mini-fridge.

While there is a nightstand between the two beds, the room also has a small shelf on either side of the bed complete with USB ports and outlets.
Pro Tip: Open the nightstand drawer for extra Incredibles surprises!
In total, these new rooms have 8 USB ports and 17 outlets.
Two handy poseable lights are also built into each headboard.
For those who appreciated the monorail in the bathroom mirror, the Highway in the Sky is featured on this lampshade too.
Each bed has a Sealy PosturePedic pillowtop mattress. Chrissy couldn’t find a date, but both were in great condition.

All of the room’s additional bedding is from 2020 through 2021.

Now, let’s get to the rest of the room, including this reddish-orange sofa day bed.

Disney seems to always be experimenting with pull-out beds, and this is yet another iteration.

Here’s a look at it fully made down, along with its adjacent end table, ottoman, and the room’s TV.

Speaking of which, the television was a 48″ backlit TV which is found super cool and has a neat, modern effect.

Also, while the room has a tile floor, Chrissy found that both of the room’s queen beds sit on an area rug which only made the space feel extra cozy and deluxe.
In the true Disney tradition, the balcony curtains featured characters and even contained a nod to the monorail, which, naturally, we appreciated.
Now, as usual, Chrissy took light readings all throughout the room – all LUX. Here’s what she found out:
  • 471 @ coffee station
  • 51.6 @ table near window
  • 271 @ pillow nearest nightstand
  • 289.1 @ nightstand
She also evaluated certain sound levels as well and found the room measured 69.3 bDA during Enchantment when the balcony doors were shut and sealed.
Note: The important point here is “sealed.” There are two locks on the door. The bottom lock secures the door from being open and the top one seals it – there is a noticeable difference when it’s sealed.

The View

This Lake View room had a full balcony with 2 chairs and a small table along with views of both pools, Bay Lake, the Electrical Water Pageant, and even EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth in the distance!

In fact, Chrissy discovered that the view of Spaceship Earth allowed us to see the colors change when the Beacons of Magic show began, as well as fireworks from Harmonious! So yeah, you may need to bribe your family to leave the balcony once all of this nightly magic begins.

  • Remodeled rooms are a thumbs down. The room is smaller. Room space was squeezed by the decorative bulkhead by the windows and by the redesign of the bathroom. It’s bigger. There used to be a table/counter with a office style chair along the outside wall of the bathroom. Handy for using a laptop or eating or just sitting. Gone. The small oval table not very functional. Love the Contemporary Resort but not happy with the remodel. Doubt if we’ll stay here again

  • The one reviewed has a walk in shower. Are there two queens/main tower with tub/shower combos vs. walk in showers and how many of each type? I am only interested in walk in shower , two queens, main tower. Is that doable?

  • This room seems so much smaller than before.

  • What were the dimensions of the sleeping area of the sofa bed?

    What did you think of the storage capacity of the 3 drawers in the closet? That seems a lot less than the rooms used to have, or what are in rooms at Pop Century (a value resort). Thanks.

  • Out of curiosity why did you not share the price paid for this room? I find it odd to see an in depth review (of any product really) without the context of the price of said product.
