Everything You Need to Know About Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

You’re going on vacation to Walt Disney World! The only problem? You’re not sure which attractions are right for you and your kiddos and you have questions. Which attractions are too intense for little ones? What rides do I really need a FastPass+ reservation for? What’s the disability access like for certain attractions? We’re answering all those questions and more in our Everything You Need to Know attraction series with today’s focus on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Magic Kingdom.

What is Seven Dwarfs Mine Train?

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is a swinging family coaster in Fantasyland themed after Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Guests board a swinging mine car and are whisked in and out of the charming mine where a million diamonds shine! I consider Seven Dwarfs Mine Train to be half family coaster half dark ride. While there are dips and turns around and through the exterior of the mine, the ride slows down once guests enter the mine shaft where audio-animatronics of the Seven Dwarfs at work in the glittering mine.

Where is Seven Dwarfs Mine Train?

The entrance to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is located across from The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh attraction in Fantasyland. The attraction itself is hard to miss due to its massive size and its positioning between the Magic Kingdom’s original Fantasyland and New Fantasyland.

What is the History of Seven Dwarfs Mine Train?

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train officially opened on May 28, 2014, as the main attraction for the Magic Kingdom’s expanded Fantasyland referred to as New Fantasyland. The land’s previous Snow White-themed attraction closed two years earlier where the space was reimagined into Princess Fairytale Hall. However, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train does contain a few relics from its predecessor.

The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train also stands in the space that 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and then Pooh’s Thotful Spot once occupied.

What Do You Need to Know About the Queue for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train?

The exterior queue winds through the forest at the foot of the mine shaft. There is some shade in some areas, but keep in mind that the exterior queue is exposed to the elements. The interior queue is interactive with tasks such as jewel sorting and washing, as well as barrel spinning with some magical results! Apart from the interactive activities, in true Disney fashion the queue is full of charming details which helps bring the story to life.

Keep in mind that it’s not unusual to see the line for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train stretch outside the queue and through Fantasyland.

What are the Ride Vehicles Like on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train?

Each mine car seats four guests with two in the front row and two in the back row. Guests ride in bucket seats each with their own lap bar which is a little thicker and rather snug compared to those on other coasters. There’s also a stationary handrail to hold onto. Now since these are individual seats and not a bench seat, larger or taller adults may find the seats a little narrow and uncomfortable. Guests can store bags at their feet or small bags and belongings in the pouch in front of them.

Much of this ride’s claim to fame is the mine car vehicles which swing when rounding those sharp curves. Honestly, I find that it’s barely noticeable in some rows. I actually wish it would swing more! However, the swinging effect is more prominent the farther back you’re seated in the train.

What Do You Need to Know About the Ride Experience on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train?

In the pantheon of Disney coasters, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train fits somewhere between The Barnstormer and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad—that is, it’s geared to older grade-school kids who’ve been on amusement park rides before. There are no loops, inversions, or rolls in the track, and no massive hills or steep drops. In fact, the ride itself is incredibly smooth and fluid and maybe too mild for those who’ve experienced the other train-themed coasters at Walt Disney World. The ride time spans about three minutes.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train truly feels like two attractions in one. The exterior portion of the ride is a coaster with a few hills and tight turns; but the ride experience changes once the mine cars travel inside. It’s at this point the cars slow down and roll past scenery and audio-animatronics much like a dark ride.

At the end of the ride, be sure to look in the windows the cottage to see Snow White dancing with the dwarfs and the sinister visitor standing just outside!
