Hurricane Matthew

We will keep this short and sweet because it’s Saturday and you really just want your Saturday 6 from Derek. We hope this will be our final Hurricane Matthew post.

Theme Parks – Open

Universal, Walt Disney World, SeaWorld –  all back to normal or close to normal hours today. Animal Kingdom even started the day with Extra Magic Hours. If you are in the parks today, take some photos and tweet them to #HeyTouringPlans – we’d love to see them. The wait times in our app will self-adjust after the parks open. We have not adjusted the Crowd Calendars.

Walt Disney World

If your Halloween Party was cancelled, you can call 407-939-7818 beginning 9AM Eastern Monday morning for refunds or rescheduling (this is from Disney’s web site – so it does seem you will need to explicitly request a refund).

Spas are still closed today, but ESPN Wide World of Sports is open. However, events are WWoS today are cancelled (presumably because participants wouldn’t have been able to arrive in time because of flights).

Disney Springs is open!

Disney is assisting guests who need to find flights home or rearrange the land parts of their vacations. If you booked directly with your airline, they will connect you with the airline and then modify the land part of your vacation. Details here.

Disney Cruise Line

Port Canaveral was cleared to accept ships, so the Dream and Fantasy will be able to continue their modified itineraries from there instead of Fort Lauderdale or Miami. Still no news on conditions at Castaway Cay. Disney has warned cruisers they may not be docking in the Bahamas if scheduled. These may be replaced with alternate ports or additional sea days.

Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Sanford (SFB) – Open

Expect delays as airlines maneuver to get planes and crews back where they need to be. Check with your airline before heading to the airport. Sanford reopened at 7:20 this morning.

Parts of I-95 are closed and moving evacuees in Georgia and South Carolina. Don’t be so sure you’ll be driving to your Walt Disney World vacation.

Thanks for reading our updates this weekend. If your plans were impacted by Hurricane Matthew let us know in the comments or email We’d love to hear your stories.

While the immediate danger to Central Florida is over the storm is still heading up the coast. Please be careful out there.

Right now my Sunday 10/9 early morning flight to MCO is a go! Really hoping all will go smoothly because they are trying to get planes back there.

Do you think the crowds next week will be reduced due to the storm?

Our flight for Saturday morning from Philly to Orlando was cancelled Thursday afternoon. Our travel agent was able to rebook us for November, but our new flights aren’t great, we are no longer at our top pick hotel, and my daughter misses getting to have her birthday in Disney on Sunday :(. On plus side Disney refunded our not so scary tickets with no issue – and we rebooked almost all fast passes and bibbidi reservation – and we still get to go this year. Bummed to not be there now – glad orlando was not hit too hard.

Such a largesse of empathy to Orlando residents in your time of great personal tragedy. You are truly a saint.

That’s hardly fair. We are a blog for people traveling to Central Florida and specifically asked how people’s plans were impacted by the hurricane. Wanting news about this does not preclude caring how residents were affected. You can do both.

Are there any updates on the aftermath of the hurricane?
Was anything in the park damaged? Is anything closed?

I have some clients who are visiting this week. Will their experience be affected?

We rolled into Orlando Friday night and were at rope drop Saturday morning. Other than a lot of palm leaves down I didn’t notice any issues at all.
