In Case You Missed It: News and Rumors – Week of April 5, 2019

This is a big weekend for me! I am heading to my very first non-domestic Disney park! Yep, I am flying across the pond to visit London, as well as Paris for the first time and you knew I had to make a stop at Disneyland Paris, right? I’m super excited and really can’t believe it’s happening all rolled into one.

This week, see which movie franchises of Fox’s that Disney plans to keep, take an in-depth look at why Dumbo may not have performed as well as Disney hoped, and more.

In Case You Missed It – Disney and Universal Orlando News and Rumors

If you have eaten at Earl of Sandwich, Chicken Guy or Planet Hollywood lately, you may want to check your credit card statements.

Congratulations to the team at Captain Marvel. The film has reached the $1 Billion mark!

Dumbo kind of missed the mark and the Washington Post looks at why that may have happened and if Disney should be concerned about its other remakes. Did you see the film? What did you think?

Disney plans to keep a few of the Fox franchises alive – namely Planet of the Apes, Kingsman, Avatar, Alien, and the Maze Runner movies. Are you excited to see any of these franchises continue?

Apparently the upcoming “live action” version of The Lion King is dazzling.

Oh my gosh, I love this. Learn how to make a Little Mermaid-inspired wreath.

I don’t think Dumbo was the best film to remake. Disney would be better off to remake the new films. I have no doubt that The Lion King and Aladdin are going to be HUGE hits.

As the actors who play the Avengers bow out of those roles, I have envisioned the X-men will become the MCU flagship franchise. I have hoped that Dark Phoenix would link the X-men and MCU together by saying she opened some sort of rift between two universes and now those two universes exist as one. Yes, my comic book geek is showing. 🙂

Have a great time in Paris! Take lots of pics!

I think Dumbo had two things working against it. 1- For many Disney fans, it isn’t in the Top 10 favorite films so those fans are not seeing it for the nostalgia factor. 2- It is competing against ALL of the other Disney owned properties that have films coming out this year and movie fans only have so many dollars in their budget for seeing films in the theater (I believe this also contributed to Solo’s poor performance in 2018). Disney had 3 films released in November and December of 2018 and then a pause in January and February. 2019 had Capt. Marvel and Dumbo in March, Avengers: Endgame and Aladdin in May, Toy Story 4 in June, and Lion King in July. All of my movie dollars are already budgeted for films that my family consider “must sees” on that list.
