International Parks Wrap-up – August 2018

Welcome back for another thrilling installment of the International Parks Wrap-up! We’re still low on news in this summery month of August, but I expect that things will be kicking into gear as we start to move into the fall and Halloween season. Shortly after we have Halloween news, I suspect the Christmas season will bring us even more to talk about. For now, let’s do our regular run-down of the parks across the oceans!

Shanghai Disneyland

The Shanghai Tourism Festival is kicking off on September 15, and it will include a new Mickey-themed float at the opening ceremonies. This float will celebrate the kick-off of the World’s Biggest Mouse Party, celebrating the 90th birthday of Mickey Mouse! (You’ll hear about more festivities in the other park sections.) Additionally, a giant birthday card will be installed next to the Storytellers statue.

As Mickey’s birthday is on November 18, you’ll be able to find special food and merchandise in the park from November 16-18. Lastly, on the 18th there will be a special nighttime birthday spectacular at the Enchanted Storybook Castle.

Hong Kong Disneyland

Of course, Hong Kong is getting in on the fun of Mickey’s birthday! Their festivities will take place on November 18. Commemorative park tickets, specialty food, birthday merchandise, and a hotel room overlay are just some of the things you’ll find at its World’s Biggest Mouse Party! They will also be showing the “We Love Mickey” projection show (through February 2019) and have birthday stickers available only on November 18.

In other news, Hong Kong Disneyland announced the name of the Ant Man attraction coming in 2019. Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! will have you join forces with the titular characters to fight Arnim Zola and his Hydra swarm-bots. Both Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will appear in this interactive attraction.

Tokyo Disney Resort

Surprisingly, the only information released about Tokyo Disney Resort’s participation in the World’s Biggest Mouse Party is that they will be joining the celebration this fall with special decorations and merchandise. Hopefully there will be more to come on what exactly that entails!

Disneyland Paris

Like Tokyo, Disneyland Paris is keeping rather quiet on what they’ll be doing for the Mouse Party. We know that their celebration will take place from fall into winter. Additionally, there will be new holiday season entertainment and special surprises. (What surprises? I have no idea!)

Now through September 30, you’ll find the return of Rendez-Vous Gourmand at Disneyland Paris. This event celebrates fine food from France, Belgium, Italy, and Spain. Located down Rue de Paris to Place de Remy in Walt Disney Studios Park, this food festival offers a wide array of delicious delicacies, pairings of champagne, wine, beer, and cider, and even vegan options. This is the second year of the event, and I expect that it will become an annual offering!
