Items We Fell in Love With at Disney This Week, October 1, 2021

Even more merchandise has started to roll out to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World. This week, our attention went to Disney Springs and the Marketplace Co-op where items from the Vault collection made their debut. Here’s some of our favorites.

The Vault line is a collection of merchandise from the early 1970s, with a focus on 1970 and the “preview center” and 1971 for the opening of Walt Disney World. As you can imagine, these are exactly as 70s as you’d expect!

Who else remembers that classic “world with ears and a big D” for Walt Disney World? Even though it’s dated feeling, everything old is new again!

It’s interesting to think back to how many people collected household items back in the day — plates, spoons, thimbles. You don’t see that quite as much anymore.

I have a jacket full of patches from places I’ve been and things I’ve seen. If the patch was sold separately from the pin, I might buy it, but as a set? Not as interested, sadly.

Speaking of pins, though, this one really speaks to the whole “Vacation Kingdom of the World” vibe. That artwork is one of my favorite pieces in promotional materials because it really feels like the vacation destination that I’d want to visit.

When it comes to popular items, though, I think these metal lunchboxes are going to be hits. I’m surprised Guy Selga is not already on a plane to Florida to get the Country Bears version. . .

And wow, this has such a retro feel to it. Those were the days!

Finally, one item that is getting a lot of love from our in-parks team is the vintage-style map. This feels like something suitable for framing, and it really shows how much has changed in the past 50 years.

Disney has stated that there will be a variety of additional items rolling out in phases to celebrate the 50th.

What do you think of the items so far? Let us know in the comments.
