New UG Podcast with Jim Hill: The Hall of Presidents

Episode 36 of the Unofficial Guide’s Disney Dish podcast is out. Recorded last week at the Magic Kingdom, Jim Hill and I cover the history of Disney’s Hall of Presidents. From early demos using the head of Confucius, to then state-of-the-art animatronics for Abe Lincoln, Jim tells the story of how Walt got the idea for a patriotic show, then iterated through its design to its current form.

  • HOP is a must do for me on any MK trip. Can’t wait to hear this podcast. I know it doesn’t change as often as it probably should, but I still find the message hopeful in a time when so much about politics is just depressing. I love how HOP respects the office of the president and works to keep the politics out of it.

  • Correct me if I’m wrong, but Disney writes the scripts, not the president. Therefore, in the interest of remaining apolitical, one update per president seems sufficient to me. Otherwise, they will reflect their first term, which will split the audience down partisan lines.

  • Agreed. A lot can change in 4 years, even in the same administration.

  • My only thought as an avid Disney customer is that sometimes as things go on in this world even if the president might stay the same updates on things that go on during a presidential term should be updated every 4 years no matter what!
