Spaceship Earth to Undergo Massive Refurbishment

If you love the current iteration of Spaceship Earth, you may want to get your rides in now! With the transformation coming for Epcot, this much loved attraction will soon be undergoing the knife, as it morphs to fit in with its new land, World Celebration.

The attraction will be getting a little bit of love, and instead will tell the story of the human experience. The ride will still feature many of the scenes that we know and love. (If they take out Foxy Cleopatra, we riot!) There will also be a few new scenes that will be added to the attraction. It will also feature a new musical score that will focus on the moments and ideas that define our story.

In addition, there will be a new guide throughout the ride known as a story light. This “story light” will follow along with each of the scenes and it will bring the entire experience to life in dynamic ways, giving each scene energy and beauty that ties the entire journey together. This new guide, as well as all new narration will focus on the storytelling that brings people together.

There was no word on when Spaceship Earth would go down for its refurbishment. Stay tuned to the blog for additional details.

  • …”instead will tell the story of the human experience. … moments and ideas that define our story. … ‘Story Light’…This new guide, as well as all new narration will focus on the storytelling that brings people together.”

Story, story, story. Plus Moana. I fear for the classic presentation of actual history. Is this becoming Spaceship: PC Earth?

  • Seems like it is more than ready to go down for refurbishment- we went twice over the summer- had fastpass for it and the fastpass line was super long due to a delay with the mechanism of the ride– plus no shade in the waiting line! Glad we waited it out now for nostalgia… but looking forward to the update.

  • I look forward to the new “more Disney” narration
“These cave paintings were the first representation of Disney storytelling…”
“Remember how easy it was to learn your ABCs? Thank Disney…”
“Behold the majesty of the Sistine ceiling, plussed with Disney magic…”
