The Magic, The Memories, and Merch! July photo report for the Disney Outlet Store

TP_MagicMemoriesMerch_LogoWe all have our favorite stores in the Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts to get our fill of merchandise. Whether it’s the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney, the Emporium on Main Street at the Magic Kingdom, or Everything POP! at the Pop Century Resort, it’s not that hard to find a gift shop filled to the brim with the latest Disney Vinylmation, t-shirts, and plushes. But did you know that there is a place where all the merchandise Disney has a hard time selling ends up? A magical store filled with discount prices and Disney-related items that even Guy Selga wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Disney outlet stores.

The Disney Character Warehouse Store
Disney’s Character Warehouse Store

There are actually two Disney outlet stores in Orlando. Both are in Orlando Premium Outlets shopping complexes, and they are called Disney’s Character Warehouse, presumably because The Land Of Misfit Toys was already trademarked. There is one Character Warehouse located on International Drive close to Universal Studios, and the other is on Vineland Avenue, right across I-4 near the exits to Disney World. This month we’re going to look at the location on International Drive. To paraphrase The Little Mermaid, let’s see what kind of wonders this cavern holds…

Disney Vinylmation

Fans of Disney’s Vinylmation collectables will find a bonanza at the outlet shops, and at a hefty discount. Decided to hold off on getting the John Carter series? Still need your Brave set? These and others can be had for about 80% off normal retail.

There are days you need to wear formal attire. There are days you need to wear casual attire. And then there are those very few days of the year where you just don’t care what anyone thinks about what you’re wearing. This Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom shirt is for those kind of days. PRO TIP: This is probably not the shirt you want to wear on a “first date.”

The new season of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo started this week, and it reminded us that it’s never too early to teach the youth of America bad eating habits.

There is a weird subculture of Tukey Leg merchandise. You can get hats, pins, and even air fresheners for your car that smell like the official Disney Turkey Leg. And you thought the world of Bronies made no sense…

The outlets are a great place to get previous years’ event shirts. Think of it like buying Halloween candy the day after Halloween or Christmas decorations the day after Christmas.

Speaking of Christmas, you don’t have to go to Downtown Disney’s Days of Christmas store to get your fill of Christmas-themed merchandise. Those red and green glasses say “white wine glass set.” Would love to see what the red wine glass set looks like…

Wait a minute, I think I’d actually buy these…

Oz the Great and Powerful
Oz the Great and Powerful

Merchandise themed to Disney’s Oz the Great and Powerful. For those who haven’t seen the movie, it’s a prequel of sorts to The Wizard of Oz, with incredible special effects and a performance by James Franco that is so mailed in that the United States Postal Service should have picked up part of his salary. Look for this section of the Character Warehouse to contain Lone Ranger merchandise real soon…

  • That gave me a good laugh too! Well written. There are actually some really good bargains to be found in these outlets if you happen to be there at the right time. Of course being there at the ‘wrong’ time will be a lot more humorous after reading this, lol 😀

We did the one on Vineland Avenue in 2009. I say ‘Did’ because we literally DID the store! I had what we refer to as a Disney Blow Out in there. I kept getting more and more shopping baskets and the kind staff at the registers offered to keep my merch behind there while I continued to shop …. and shop … and shop! I spent about $600 in there that day but must have looted close to $2k of goods. When it was time to pay the lovely, smiley lady asked me “So do ya’ll have a big car?” I surveyed what looked like mountains of shopping as I suddenly had a D’oh! moment and slowly told her that we were staying onsite at WDW and didn’t have a car – we’d come with a taxi. The next problem I had was that I realized there was no way that my then 6 year old and I were going to manage to carry the stuff and as we are international visitors (locals would never be this insane!) shipping was hardly an option. My solution was to pay, leave the goods there and run over to a luggage store and purchase a very large suitcase. Of course the $12 rail of Levi’s at the Levi store hadn’t helped matters on the stop prior to entering Character Warehouse ….

It can be hit or miss as to what you find in there at any given time but it’s always been taxi fare well spent for us.
