The Plaza Restaurant Offers Comfort Food and Great Views

Part of our day-to-day in-park research includes revisiting restaurants to ensure our dining reviews are up to date. Recently I went to the Plaza Restaurant at the Magic Kingdom to sample their traditional American fare.

The Plaza Restaurant Setting and Atmosphere

The Plaza Restaurant is located the end of Main Street USA and can be found between the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor and the Tomorrowland Terrace. The main dining room has a charming and intimate atmosphere and there is also a smaller circular room located in the corner. We were seated in the circular room right next to the window which gave us some great sunset views of the castle while we enjoyed our meal.

The Plaza Restaurant Menu

The menu at The Plaza Restaurant has a good selection of classic American fare. Appetizers include BLT Salad ($9), Chili ($9), and Seared Crab Cakes ($10.50). The entrees include Roast Beef Au Jus ($19), Fried Chicken Sandwich ($21), and the Main Street Burger ($21). There is also a plant based option, the Chili Impossible Burger ($21). For dessert you can choose from a variety of Cakes and Shakes ($7-$9.50) and Ice Cream and Sundaes ($7-$10). There are also allergy friendly menus available. I would consider the dishes here comfort food and picky eaters should have no trouble finding something to eat.

Our Dining Experience at The Plaza Restaurant

We decided to start out with the Plaza Loaded Fries ($12.50) as our appetizer. The fries are served with melted cheddar, bacon, tomatoes, and lettuce. The fries were nice and crispy and the amount of melted cheese on top was just right. The addition of the lettuce and tomato added some nice added crunch and freshness.  This is definitely a perfectly sized portion for two people but too small if your party is bigger.

For our entrees we chose the Home Style Meatloaf ($23) and the Plaza Turkey Club ($17). The Home Style Meatloaf came served with green beans and mashed potatoes. This dish is great if you want something filling but not too heavy. The piece of meatloaf you get is substantial and is prepared perfectly and the mashed potatoes and green beans are the perfect accompaniment.

If you are looking for something a little lighter the Plaza Turkey Club is a good choice. This is a traditional club sandwich so it comes with house made bacon, lettuce, tomato and is served on sourdough bread. The sandwich is usually served with french fries but you have the option of switching out the side to green beans like we did here. If you love a turkey club you will love the one served here.

Dessert is the main event here at the Plaza Restaurant, especially now with the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor next door still closed. For our first dessert we chose the Signature Chocolate Cake ($9.50). This is a four-layer chocolate cake filled with dark chocolate ganache. This is a rich chocolate cake that is made to be shared. The dark chocolate ganache in this cake keeps it from being too sweet while adding a nice depth of flavor.

Of course if you dine at the Plaza Restaurant you have to get ice cream so we decided to also get the Original Banana Split ($10). You get three scoops of ice cream; you can choose what flavors you want but we went with the traditional combination of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. This comes topped with hot fudge, strawberry sauce, crushed pineapple, crushed nuts, whipped cream, and a cherry. This is another dessert that is perfect for sharing. The ice cream is delicious and a nice change from the soft serve that you find served in most of the Magic Kingdom.

The Plaza Restaurant Ratings

We have ratings and rankings for every Walt Disney World dining location and The Plaza Restaurant has a 83% thumbs up rating, and is ranked #48 out of 104 table service restaurants.

The Plaza Restaurant is serves up comfort food that is well prepared in a charming atmosphere. You get some great views of the hub and the castle, so I would definitely recommend eating dinner here so you can enjoy some nice views of the sunset. The prices here are on the lower end so this is a good option if you want table service in the park but are trying to stay on budget.

The Plaza Restaurant offers discounts for annual passholders (10%) and Tables in Wonderland (20%).
