The SATURDAY SIX Ranks the BEST CHICKEN SANDWICHES at Disney Springs
This week’s SATURDAY SIX takes a look at the BEST chicken sandwiches at Disney Springs! We recently passed the 10 year anniversary of WDW’s Downtown Disney’s transformation into Disney Springs. In my mind, by far and away the biggest change during that overhaul was a revamping of the area’s dining experiences, and boy did we Florida foodies get a huge improvement there. We are now truly blessed with some fantastic restaurants, many of which are run by celebrity chefs.
Today we are going to look at one specific item that you can get at many restaurants at Disney Springs – the chicken sandwich. After an intensive three year special investigation of research and resampling, we are here to inform you that Disney Springs has become the Mecca for chicken sandwiches and we’re gonna rank the best of the best, starting with…
# 6 – Chicken Guy!
If “chicken” is in the name of your restaurant, you better have a good chicken sandwich. Guy Fieri’s Chicken Guy! specializes in chicken strips, and their chicken sandwiches are made by using those very same chicken strips, and it works. Chicken Guy! currently has four chicken sandwich options on their menu, but your best bet is the Bourbon Brown Sugar BBQ. Absolutely fantastic.
Another sandwich worth trying is the B.L.A.T.
For some reason, the Chicken Guy Classic has been removed from the menu. Maybe it wasn’t as classic as Guy Fieri thought. If it ever does come back, its worth trying for those who like more of a traditional chicken sandwich.
Still heartbroken that another loss over the years is the wide variety of sauces available at Chicken Guy! If you want to talk about shrinkflation, let’s talk about sauces because below are the 22 options we use to be able to choose from and currently Chicken Guy! only offers 10.
# 5 – Everglazed Donuts & Cold Brew
Wait a second, a DONUT SHOP for a chicken sandwich. It may sound bonkers – because it is – but Everglazed has a fantastic chicken sandwich that uses a donut for the bun!
Everglazed is known for their wild and sometimes over the top donuts that taste fantastic, but what’s surprising is how good their chicken sandwich is. It doesn’t make any sense until you peel back layers of the onion and discover that Everglazed, Splitsville, and Art Smith’s Homecomin’ are all run by the same management team. Without giving any spoilers, can you guess which two other Disney Springs restaurants also made the Best Chicken Sandwich list?
# 4 – Polite Pig
Polite Pig is the first restaurant you will encounter when entering Disney Springs from the – ugh – Lime Garage. It is off-the-charts good when it comes to BBQ and offers a wide variety of unique and tasty sides. You probably wouldn’t think of a BBQ place as a go to place for a chicken sandwich, but the Polite Pig’s version is ::chef’s kiss::
I also think you should start every meal at the Polite Pig with their slider trio appetizer which offers a mini chicken sandwich.
# 3 – Splitsville Luxury Lanes
I personally think Splitsville may be the most underrated restaurant at Disney Springs because so many guests see it as a “bowling alley that offers food.” It’s much more than that and has one of the best menus in an area that has a Murderer’s Row of incredible dining venues. I would never try to talk anyone out of getting a slice of pizza at Pizza Ponte in Disney Springs, but you know who might have the best bang for your buck pizza in the area? Splitsville. You’d have to be INSANE to get sushi at a bowling alley in Florida, but you know who offers some of the best sushi at Walt Disney World? Splitsville.
The Buffalo Chicken Sandwich at Splitsville is aces and as a bonus, can be served with crinkle cut fries (which I believe are the best type of fries.)
The onion rings at Splitsville are also fantastic.
If you like Buffalo Chicken, be sure to check out the eggrolls for an appetizer.
Always love any restaurant that has it’s own “themed” beer, so your Buffalo Chicken Sandwich pairs great with a “Lost Lanes” Pilsner.
We’re gearing up for some great football in December and January, and friendly reminder that Splitsville is a great place to watch the games while you enjoy a meal.
# 2 – Pepe by José Andrés
Over the last few years, chef José Andrés has become a personal hero of mine as I see how much he does across the globe to help people during disasters. Glad to report that his restaurant also makes a pretty great Fried Chicken, Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato at Pepe (the casual quick service element of chef Andrés’ Jaleo.)
You can’t go wrong with churros (and ice cream) for dessert
# 1 – Art Smith’s Homecomin’
Was there any doubt? C’mon people.
Art Smith’s Homcomin’ is THE place at Disney Springs if you like chicken. Period. Homecomin’s Fried Chicken Sandwich is worth going out of your way for. Wow!
PRO TIP: Order Art’s Hot Chicken Sandwich and top it with a side of pimento cheese. You’ll thank us.
However, before you order your chicken sandwich entrée, don’t forget the E-Ticket chicken sandwich appetizer with the Thigh High Chicken Biscuits. Ask for an extra side of hot honey sauce and you’ll be leaving Homecomin’ floating on air, they are that good.
Interestingly enough, one of my personal favorite dishes to get at Homecomin’ is the Fried Chicken & Doughnuts because, well I like both fried chicken and doughnuts. During its first several years of operation, Homecomin’ made its own doughnuts in house and they were good…but not great (especially when compared to almost any other item on the menu.)
However, today Homecomin’ serves that very same dish with the great glazed doughnuts from Everglazed and now we have that E-Ticket dish that is promised by the very name of “Fried Chicken & Donuts.”
HONORABLE MENTION – Raglan Road
An Irish restaurant isn’t generally where your mind goes when thinking “chicken sandwich” but the Cookes of Dublin Fried Chicken Sandwich is truly terrific.
Pair that sandwich with a Blathanna Blossom.
From the Penthouse to the Outhouse – City Works
When we first started working on this article, the chicken wrap at City Works Eatery & Pour House made our top six. However, recent servings have forced us to remove it from the list. The amount of chicken to lettuce/mix-ins has been completely reversed and the usage of the word “hot” in the name seems to be a misnomer. It’s mild at best.
So there you have it: Ranking the BEST Chicken Sandwiches at Disney Springs!
