Unauthorized Disney Parks movie “Escape From Tomorrow” Finally Coming to Theatres

We here at Touring Plans are obviously enamored of most things Disney, but even the most ardent Mickey admirer must admit that an extended on-property stay at one of the Mouse’s resorts can start to feel like a surreal David Lynch-like nightmare. That experience is apparently universal enough to inspire Escape From Tomorrow, a black & white independent sci-fi/horror film that was shot inside Walt Disney World and Disneyland attractions without Disney’s participation or permission.

Writer/director Randy Moore’s film was a surprise hit at the last Sundance Film Festival, but we predicted that the average viewer would “never” get to see the movie due to obvious trademark conflicts with Disney’s legal department. Thankfully, it appears we were wrong! Earlier this week, the L.A. Times unexpectedly announced that Cinetic Media’s PDA subsidiary (which also handled the Banksy documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop) would be distributing the film to select theaters around the country starting on October 11.

If you aren’t lucky enough to live near a screening location, the film will also be widely available in homes via Video On Demand services. So if you’ve always wanted to see Spaceship Earth explode on the silver screen, you will soon have your chance.
