Dumbarton Oaks Museum

Description And Comments

At 1703 32nd St sits the Dumbarton Oaks museum and gardens. The house was built in 1801, but after being purchased by Mildred and Robert Woods Bliss in 1920 it was expanded in order to house their art collection. The attached gardens contain a beautiful swimming pool (no swimming), a strictly manicured pebble garden, a rose garden, and the ellipse, a peaceful oval surrounded by boxwood with a fountain at its center. The museum is free of charge and open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:30 am to 5:30 pm. The gardens cost $10 for adults and are open Tuesday through Sunday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm from mid-March through October, closing at 5:00 pm the remainder of the year.
