The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is made up of two long, curving, tree-lined marble walls which frame a tranquil reflection pool. This is a memorial to the more than 20,000 American officers who have been killed in the line of duty. The names of each officer – dating back to 1791 – are carved into the walls, with new names added each spring. Each pathway is guarded symbolically by statue groups of a male lion watching over its cubs.
