101 Ways to Propose at Walt Disney World

You’re in love! You want it to last forever and ever! You’re going to propose! You want to make it special! What to do? Propose at Walt Disney World!

While there are no real statistics about how many people get engaged at Disney World each year, my personal guesstimate is “lots and lots.” (Hey, I said there were no firm statistics.) I’ve personally seen five WDW proposals (all as a bystander) and we’ve answered hundreds of “How do I propose at Disney World?” questions on the Walt Disney World Moms Panel. In conversations with cast at the Grand Floridian’s posh Victoria & Albert’s restaurant, I’ve learned that they typically host several proposals each week, at that location alone.

Obviously many people have found great joy through their Disney betrothments, but before you start hatching your plan there are few things you may want to consider:

• Does your intended truly love Disney (as much as she loves you)? You don’t want to inadvertently link your eternal happiness to something she finds unpleasant, or even just meh.
• Will you or your intended mind having an audience for your proposal? Walt Disney World is a busy place, even relatively secluded spots may have other people nearby.
• Are there costs involved with a Disney proposal that you would not encounter if you had proposed elsewhere? Would you be better off saving those pennies for the wedding, honeymoon, or other more practical purpose.

Assuming you’ve thought it through and decided that a Disney proposal is the perfect way to start your happily ever after, here are 101 ideas to help you brainstorm the perfect proposition. When deciding which route to take, be sure to take your beloved’s personality and interests into consideration. Some of these suggestions are sweet, some are silly, some are splashy (figuratively and literally), some are inexpensive, some are pricey, but any of them will be perfect if she answers, “YES!”

Please note that while I am using the HE proposes to HER convention in this article, I wholeheartedly endorse women proposing to men, men proposing to men, women proposing to women, and any other variations on the spectrum. Disney is also on board with couples of all configurations becoming engaged on property.

1. 1. Hire the Disney Fairytale Engagements department to plan a private event. This might include access to an otherwise inaccessible location or allow you to include extensive character participation in your plans.
   2. Have dinner at Disney’s finest restaurant, Victoria & Albert’s. Have the staff bring out the ring on a tray with dessert. Call 407-939-3862 to make reservations and arrange for surprise planning.
   3. Take a blanket and picnic basket to the beach at the Polynesian during the Wishes fireworks show. During the “…dreams come true” part. Ask her to make your dreams come true by becoming your bride.
   4. Book a tandem parasailing ride at the Contemporary resort. When you’re in the air, tell her that you’ll be floating on air if she says, “Yes.” Weight limits apply to tandem rides, works best if you’re both petite. DON’T bring a potentially droppable ring into the sky.
   5. Take a horsedrawn carriage ride at Fort Wilderness or Port Orleans, propose on the way. Be sure you don’t mind having the driver as your audience.
   6. Visit the Wishing Well in the rose garden near the Magic Kingdom castle forecourt. Tell her that your wish is that she’ll spend the rest of her life with you.
   7. Hire the independent service Gifts of Lifetime to help you arrange a private scavenger hunt.

1. 1. Have a Cinderella Slipper sent to your room. Ask her to be your princess.
   2. Offer her a ring during the ring toss scene of Toy Story Midway Mania at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Hold on tight, those vehicles turn quickly.
   3. Take a stroll outside the Grand Floridian. At the sign for Wedding Pavilion, ask her to join you at a wedding … yours together
   4. During the Haunted Mansion ride at the Magic Kingdom, point out all the wedding portraits. Say, “That gives me an idea….” Works best with a potential bride who has a sense of humor.
   5. Pretend like you’re posing for a regular PhotoPass picture in front of the Castle. As the photographer is setting up the shot, get down on one knee and present the ring. Would be great to alert the photographer a few minutes in advance so he can keep shooting throughout the proposal.
   6. If you know that her dream honeymoon destination is one of the countries represented in Epcot’s World Showcase, propose there. For example, stand under the faux Eiffel Tower in France and say, “I’d love to take you to Paris … for our honeymoon.”
   7. Stand near the single rider line at any attraction that has one (Test Track, for example). Say “I don’t want to go in that line. I don’t ever want to be single again.”
   8. On the Small World ride at the Magic Kingdom, say “You’re my whole world, please be my bride.”
   9. At Cinderella’s Royal Table in the Magic Kingdom, order the Cinderella Slipper chocolate dessert. Have the ring placed on the tray.

1. 1. Arrange for a private Illuminations fireworks cruise, propose on board. Be sure you don’t mind having the driver as your audience.
   2. Watch the Wishes fireworks presentation from the 4th floor observation deck at the Contemporary resort. Tell her she “lights up your life” and pop the question.
   3. Get on the Magic Kingdom carousel. Tell her “life has its ups and downs, but whatever it brings, you want to share it with her.”
   4. Arrange for a surprise Disney portrait session. When she asks why the photographer is there, tell her that you wanted someone to capture your special moment.” Then propose.
   5. Ride Soarin’ at Epcot. Tell her that she makes you feel “top of the world.” Then propose.
   6. Visit the Jellyrolls piano bar at the Boardwalk Resort. Ask the musicians to play her favorite song, then pop the question. Contact a manager at 407-560-8770 who can help you “arrange” the proposal.
   7. Get the bride and groom Vinylmation figures. Go to the D-Street Store at Downtown Disney and pretend like you’re going to trade the figures. Then stop and tell your intended, “Wait, I can’t trade this because they remind me of us.” These figures are not currently available in stores, but are readily available on eBay.
   8. If you’re staying at a deluxe resort, cancel a dinner reservation and order a room service meal instead. When she asks why, tell her it’s because you want to be alone with her on your special night. Then propose.
   9. Stop by one of the park Guest Relations offices and get a free “Happily Ever After” button. Give it to her and say that you would love to live happily ever after with her.
   10. Go to the Hoop Dee Doo Revue dinner show. When the cast ask whether anyone is celebrating anything, raise your hand and say that you’d like to celebrate if your girlfriend agrees to become your bride. Then propose. This will have a big audience. Be sure she’ll say yes.
   11. Train for the Disney Marathon together. Propose at the finish line.
   12. Have a cake inscribed with “Will You Marry Me” delivered to a WDW restaurant. Call the Cake Hotline 407-827-2253 to coordinate this.
   13. Go to buy her a balloon from one of the vendors on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. Then buy a second, and third, and fourth … When she asks what you’re doing, tell her that you’ll be “floating on air” if she marries you.
   14. Ask her to “take the plunge” with you on during the big drop on Splash Mountain. Again, best to keep that ring safely tucked away until after you’re on dry land.
   15. Bury a proxy ring in the sand at the Animal Kingdom’s Boneyard, have her find it while digging. For obvious reasons, you don’t want to bury the real ring. Works best if you have an accomplice bury it just ahead of your arrival and text you where to look.

1. 1. Visit the Flights of Wonder show at the Animal Kingdom. Tell her that your heart “will take wing” if she becomes your bride.
   2. Ask a caricature artist (several locations in the parks and resorts) to sketch the two of you together. Then ask him to draw a ring on your intended’s hand.
   3. At the Magic Kingdom’s “Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It” parade, tell her you’d like to celebrate your engagement.
   4. Ask the Dapper Dans to sing a wedding-related standard. Then propose.
   5. At the Animal Kingdom’s Affection Section, proclaim your undying affection for her. Then propose.
   6. Have a bottle of champagne sent to your table at a signature restaurant. Ask the staff to tie the ring to the bottle with a ribbon. She’ll see it when they present the bottle for approval.
   7. Secretly invite her best friend, mom, or sister to meet up with you in the parks. When she asks why the friend is there, tell her that you knew she’d want to share this special day with her bestie. Then propose.
   8. Watch a Disney movie under the stars at your Disney resort hotel. At the touching part (there’s always a touching part), proclaim your love and ask for her hand.
   9. Take her on the Magic Kingdom’s Space Mountain. Tell her she’s “out of this world.” Then propose.
   10. Buy a piece of candy at the Main Street Confectionery. Throw it out. When she asks you why, tell her that she’s the only sweet you need. Then propose.
   11. Visit the Princess greeting venue at the Magic Kingdom. When the princesses ask how you are, tell them that you’ll be much better if your girlfriend agrees to marry you. Obviously make sure that the girlfriend hears the conversation.
   12. If you’re a talented singer, audition for the American Idol Experience. Choose a love song to sing to her. When the judges ask you why you chose the song, propose.

1. 1. Visit the Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights. Tell her she’s the brightest light in the whole place. Then propose.
   2. Order a round of drinks for everyone in your hotel bar/lounge. When she asks you why, tell her that you want them all to toast your love. Then propose.
   3. Snuggle side-by-side in a car at the Sci-Fi Dine-In. Order a milkshake with two straws. Explain that you want to share everything with her, for the rest of your life.
   4. As you pass the treasure room in the Pirates of Caribbean ride, tell her that Captain Jack Sparrow didn’t get all the jewels, then show her the ring.
   5. Order the Kitchen Sink Sundae at the Beach Club’s Beaches and Cream restaurant. After this gigantic creation is left at your table, tell her that the server forgot to add something to the Sink. When she asks what it is, show her the ring.
   6. During the Magic Kingdom’s Carousel of Progress ride, sing along with the “Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” song and then whisper to her that your tomorrows will all be beautiful if she becomes your bride.
   7. Speak to the cast member attendants at Epcot’s Turtle Talk with Crush attraction. Ask them to help you arrange for Crush to introduce you during the show so you can propose.
   8. At Epcot’s Journey to Imagination pavilion, tell her that you can’t imagine life without her. Then propose.
   9. Have your hotel room filled with roses while you’re out for the day. When you return she’ll be wonderfully surprised by the gesture, and your proposal. Call the Disney Florist at 407-939-4438 to arrange.
   10. Visit the Hanes Design-A-Tee shop at Downtown Disney. Tell her you want to make personalized shirts to commemorate your trip. Ask if you can personalize hers with “Mrs. [Your Last Name].”
   11. Have a holiday ornament personalized with “Mr. & Mrs. [Your Last Name]” at the Days of Christmas shop at Downtown Disney. Present it to her as you propose, saying you’d like to hang it on your tree together every year for the rest of your lives.
   12. If you know she wants to visit Splitsville, the new Downtown Disney bowling alley, tell her that you won’t go because you never want to split from her. Then propose.
   13. Buy the bride and groom Mickey ears. Show them to her and ask if you can have them personalized with your names because you want her to be your bride and you to be her groom.
   14. At the Animal Kingdom’s Lion King show, tell her that your Circle of Life will be complete if she becomes your bride.

1. 1. At the Magic Kingdom’s Celebrate A Dream parade, tell her that your dreams will come true if she agrees to marry you.
   2. Draw a Disney character at the class at the Art of Disney Animation attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Add a thought bubble to the character saying, “Will you marry me?”
   3. Wear something white on an attraction with a black light section, the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh for example. When your clothing glows, tell her that the only thing that would make you glow more is if she agrees to marry you.
   4. Walk from the Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary. As you pass the commemorative bricks, tell her that you wish they still made those because you’d like to have a permanent marker of your love. Then propose.
   5. Rent a surrey bike at the Boardwalk, Wilderness Lodge, or other location. Tell her that pedaling is easy because you’re doing it together. Tell her that everything is easier when you’re together. Then propose.
   6. Secretly buy her a sparkly tiara at the Crystal Arts store on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. Give it to her in front of the Castle and say that you’d be honored if she would agree to be your princess … for the rest of your lives.
   7. Have an accomplice hide a ring in a cave on Tom Sawyer Island. Pretend to be searching for Tom’s paintbrush and have her find the ring instead. Your helper will obviously have to keep close tabs on the ring.
   8. Pretend you have a goal to use every form of transportation at Walt Disney World: monorail, boat, bus, tram, railroad, etc. When it appears you’ve done them all, pretend that you’ve forgotten one. When she asks what it is, tell her that you’re missing the ride of a lifetime … becoming man and wife.
   9. Take her for a couples massage at the spa at the Grand Floridian, Saratoga Springs, or Dolphin resorts. Afterwards, tell her that the massage relaxed you, but that won’t be able to really relax until she agrees to become your bride.

1. 1. Secretly change your room reservation from a standard room to a deluxe suite. When she asks what’s going on, tell her that you booked the better room to celebrate. Then propose.
   2. Win her a prize at the Dinoland Games of Chance at the Animal Kingdom. Tell her that the only prize you want is having her as your bride.
   3. If you’re staying at the Pop Century resort, tell her that you like the way they’ve represented the passing of the years … and that you’d like to spend all your years with her.
   4. On the Magic Carpets of Aladdin ride at the Magic Kingdom, tell her that you’d like to have her accompany you on a “Whole New World” of love. Then propose.
   5. In the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad queue at the Magic Kingdom, when the announced says you’re going on the “wildest ride in the wilderness,” tell her that the real wildest ride would be a lifetime together. Then propose.
   6. At Epcot’s Innoventions, go to the Sum of All Thrills attraction. Tell her that no roller coaster you could create would match the thrill of her marrying you.
   7. At Epcot’s Imagination pavilion, buy her a plush Figment toy. Say that your love for her is no figment of her imagination. Then propose.
   8. After riding the Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, tell that those falls were big, but not as big as falling in love with her. Then get down on one knee and take her hand.
   9. On the Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, whisper into to ear during the Casablanca scene that the movie is romantic, but not as romantic as your life together will be if she becomes your bride.
   10. In front of the Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, tell her that your life will be complete if she spends the rest of it with you.
   11. At the Lego Imagination Center at Downtown Disney, spell out “Marry Me?” in Legos on the display tables.

1. 1. If you root for rival sports teams, go to the Team Mickey store at Downtown Disney. Tell her that you’ll buy, and wear, the jersey of her favorite if she agrees to become your wife.
   2. After a visit to Cirque du Soleil La Nouba, tell her that the show was amazing, but not as amazing as a life together would be. Then propose.
   3. At Blizzard Beach, suggest going on the Teamboat Springs family raft ride, because you want her to become your family.
   4. At Downtown Disney, board the Characters in Flight balloon ride. At the top, tell her that the view is incredible, but not as incredible as the view of her face. Then pop the question. This is another don’t-drop-the-ring situation.
   5. Take an archery lesson at Fort Wilderness, tell her that cupid has shot an arrow into your heart. Then propose.
   6. During the holidays, visit Santa at the Magic Kingdom together. Tell Santa that all you want for Christmas is for her to accept your proposal.
   7. Have her sit on a bench to rest. Go buy her a box of popcorn. Secretly have the cast at the stand put the ring in the bottom of the box. When she gets to the end, she’ll find it.
   8. Go into a photo booth (usually found in Dinoland at the Animal Kingdom and in the Imagination pavilion at Epcot). Just as the camera starts clicking, ask her to marry you. The shots will be awesome.
   9. Stay in the Magic Kingdom until the very end of the night, so you’re the last ones in the park. Tell her that the only thing now that will make the magic last is if she agrees to marry you.
   10. Have breakfast at the Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom. When Tigger gets nearby, tell her that you know something that will make you jump higher than he can … the joy you’ll feel if she consents to be your bride.
   11. Take her to eat at Via Napoli at Epcot. Before you sit down, secretly ask the staff to spell out “Marry Me?” in pepperoni on the pizza you will order.
   12. Play a game of tennis at the Grand Floridian (or other location). Tell her that all this talk of “love” gives you an idea. Then propose.
   13. Go to a make-your-own-bracelet stand (available at the Magic Kingdom’s Uptown Jewelers and many other locations). Use the letters there to spell out “Marry Me?”
   14. After visiting the Magic Kingdom’s Hall of Presidents or Epcot’s American Adventure attraction, tell her that you know something at would really make history … your engagement.
   15. Visit the Stave Church in Epcot’s Norway pavilion, ask her what kind of church she’d like to have her wedding in … with you.
   16. Look at the Lucky Cat figurines for sale in the Japan pavilion at Epcot. Tell her that you’ll be the luckiest cat in town … if she will marry you.

1. At one of the 3D movies (Muppet Vision at DHS, Mickey’s PhilharMagic at the MK, etc.), take off the glasses to make the screen blurry. Then tell her that the only thing you can see clearly is your love for her. Then propose.
2. Go on the Magic Kingdom’s Peter Pan ride. Mention how romantic London looks below you. Then say you know how to make it even more romantic … and propose.
3. Hire a private plane to fly a “Will You Marry Me [Her Name] banner over your resort.
4. Book the Tommorowland Terrace Dessert Party. Look at the array of treats and tell her that she’s by far the sweetest thing there. Then propose.
5. Work with cast members at the Monster’s Inc. attraction at the Magic Kingdom. Have one of the monsters ask your girlfriend if she will marry “That Guy” (you).
6. Buy her the Disney Wedding Songs CD at the Main Street Emporium and ask her if you can listen to it together … while you plan your wedding.
7. Order spaghetti at Tony’s Town Square on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. Reenact the Lady and the Tramp pasta scene, ending in a kiss. Then propose.
8. Create an elaborate touring plan and make a big fuss about it. When you get to the park in the morning, start heading toward your first attraction. Then stop and tell her that there’s been a change of plans; you have to do the most important activity first. When she asks what that is, you ask for her hand.

There you go, 101 ways to get incorporate a marriage proposal into your Disney World vacation. I’m sure there are at least as many more ideas as there are couples embarking on their lives together.
