New Details About Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

This past summer, Disney announced that a brand new land was slated for Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The land, called Toy Story Land would have Guests finding themselves shrunk down to the size of the toy as they enter the world of Buzz, Woody, Bo Peep, Jessie, Potato Head, Rex, and the rest of your Toy Story favorites.

Today, we have more details on the two new attractions that will be opening in this newly-built, immersive land.

On Slinky Dog Dash, a family roller coaster, Guests will find themselves on a coaster track Andy has built in his backyard using his Mega Coaster Play Kit. Toy Story characters will, of course, find their way into the attraction in fun and unique ways as Guests zip, dodge and dash around many turns and drops that Andy has created to really make Slinky and his coils stretch to his limits.

Here is a short video rendition of what Guests can expect to experience on Slinky Dog Dash:

The second attraction is themed after the aliens showcased in the film. It will be called Alien Swirling Saucers and will find the aliens which are flying around in their toy flying saucers and trying to capture your rocket toy vehicle with “The Claw.” As Guests rotate around toy planets, music, lighting, and sound effects will add the the fun as “The Claw” looms over you. There will also be “Space Jazz” music created specifically for the attraction.

For those who can’t wait for Toy Story excitement at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it was also announced that the third track for Toy Story Midway Mania would be opening Memorial Day Weekend, giving Guests more chances to ride this attraction during the popular busy months.

Toy Story Land looks to be an exciting adventure. I cannot wait to be able to share more details with you all going forward.

  • Slinky Coaster sounds lame. Think they should have gone with something like Crush Coaster from DLParis.

    • I was hoping for Monsters Inc. roller coaster. We could crash through those doors and reenact the big door chase scene! That could be really wild!

  • I am excited about this! My boys are chickens and think even 7DMT is too intense. We need something a little bigger than Barnstormer but not a full blown “mountain.”

    • works for me too. I have boys who will ride anything, but it’s nice when there’s something I’m willing to ride with them 🙂

  • I would like the slinky coaster to be like a slinky. With each car a bit behind the head car with variable distance…expanding and contracting at slow speeds. The thrill would be the ‘bumper car’ aspect cars moving apart and coming together. From the video it looks like they just slapped a fiberglass overlay on a standard off the shelf kiddie coaster.

  • Does Swirling Saucers sound like it might be a trackless vehicle attraction like Tokyo and Hong Kong have? It would be nice to have one of those attractions stateside, if for no other reason than that they’re so different from what we’ve gotten used to.

Also, has the name actually been announced as “Toy Story Land”? It took ages before we got the real name for Pandora, so I’m wondering. Allegedly, the Star Wars area has had its name announced, though I have no clue what it is. (Not a lot of interest for me.)

    • As far as we know, it is going to be Toy Story Land, according to Disney.

As far as Star Wars Land, it has not been officially announced, but Jim Hill mentioned on The Disney Dish podcast that it may be the Star Wars Experience.

      • I think “Andy’s Back Yard” has a nice ring to it.

    • The swirling saucers are expected to be similar to Maters Junkyard Jamboree in Carsland in Californa Adventure.

  • This is HS…can’t we get a more exciting coaster than 7DMT? At least it better have some kind of well-executed gimmick like Cheetah Chase at Busch Gardens. There are ways to make family coasters great for everyone, and WDW has nailed the ambiance, but not the actual ride experience.
