Your Walt Disney World Hotel Gift Shop: What Did You Forget? Chances Are They Have It.
I often make half a dozen trips to Walt Disney World a year. I know exactly what I need to bring at any time of the year and with any group of traveling companions, but even a veteran Disney packer like me has occasionally forgotten toothpaste or run out of sunscreen. And even the most organized adventurer can encounter unexpected hurdles such as headaches or blisters. The good news is that Disney is extraordinarily prepared to make sure that challenges such as these don’t derail your vacation.
Every hotel on Walt Disney World property includes a gift shop (or two or three or four); no surprise there. While you will, of course, find souvenirs of every shape and size in these stores, you will also find at one least gift shop in each hotel outfitted like a small pharmacy. Just about every category of sundry and over-the-counter remedy is stocked right there on site. You may not find the exact brand you’re looking for, and you will likely be paying a premium over your local CVS, but you won’t be left in the lurch. When I’m traveling, that gives me great peace of mind that if I ever do need a basic (or not-so-basic) item, I’ll be able to find it right away.
To give you an idea of what I’m talking about, here is a comprehensive list of drugstore-type items I’ve found for sale in the Walt Disney World hotel gift shops in the past year. Not every item is at every location, but the vast majority can be found throughout the resort.

If you happen to be out in the parks when a minor mishap strikes, be sure to stop by the first aid center (check the park map for the location). The aid stations carry many basic non-prescription remedies. And if your needs are not covered by the items listed here, or if you need a prescription medication, you can also get drugstore items delivered to your hotel from Turner Drugs. My husband forgot his pajamas! Last time I let him pack himself… And no, the hotel didn’t have pajama pants for men- just swimsuits or shirts. He had a shirt, just no pants besides his park-touring shorts! Good thing we have a son. 4 year old (at the time) just thought it was hilarious. He, of course, had pajamas (since mommy packed his clothes…). They did have everything else we ever needed, including the immodium for the stomach upset, children’s tylenol for the fever, and all the other random things you didn’t pack but end up needing (that we now pack- lesson learned!).
In recent years, they have sold several styles of men’s PJ pants in the parks and at the World of Disney Store. I’m thinking that this kind of mistake would also be an excuse for most men to sleep in their undies or au naturale. 🙂
On our last trip in February 2010, I forgot all of my socks and underwear. After we landed in Tampa (our original flight to Orlando was cancelled due to snow in NJ), we found the Target closest to the airport (also close to the I-4 entrance ramp) and stocked up. This October, even though we’ll have a weasher and dryer in our BLT one bedroom, I’ll be sure to pack lots of each!
If you have a car, your options are obviously greatly expanded. You can usually find men’s boxers and athletic socks for sale in the parks, but not other styles of these items.
I would also add that just because you don’t SEE something for sale doesn’t mean they don’t carry it. I found myself bleeding in DHS one time and asked where I could get band-aids. The CM told me they sold them in the Villains store, but band-aids were behind the counter and I had to specifically ask for them. Never hurts to ask!
Excellent point. This also works for any rain-related items. They have umbrellas and ponchos under the counter and only put them out during storms.
I’m a coffee drinker, and I brought my own coffee grounds to use in the hotel coffee maker. However, the coffee provided at the on-property hotels use those coffee pods (pre-portioned filter bags already containing the grounds). I looked everywhere for coffee filters–the resort gift shop, any number of places at Downtown Disney…nobody had coffee filters! Even the cast members at the various stores seemed surprised that I couldn’t find them anywhere. I finally found filters for sale at one of the gift shops on the Boardwalk.
Coffee filters should be available in the shop in all resorts that have attached Disney Vacation Club properties. One of these is the Boardwalk, others include Old Key West, Animal Kingdom, Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge, Saratoga Springs, and Beach Club. These shops have many more food options as well.
Underwear would be a good addition. Hubby forgot to pack them on our most recent trip. Thankfully we were in a DVC resort and had a washer/dryer so the pair he wore on the plane got washed every night. He hates boxers, but he had to sleep in them that trip ’cause thats all the stores sell at Disney! It was fun teasing him though!
What about adult diaper because I need them and had to go to tagert one time
I’ve just looked back at my photos of the merchandise at Disney resorts. From the five resorts I surveyed, all had one brand/size of adult diapers stocked in the shop. They are typically located next to the children’s diapers on the shelf. If you want more options for size or brand and don’t want to go offsite, you could have Amazon, Turner Drug, or Garden Grocer deliver to your hotel.
