First Look at the Brand New Skipper Canteen at Magic Kingdom

The Skipper Canteen — officially the unwieldy Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen — soft opened today in Adventureland at the Magic Kingdom. It is a brand new restaurant themed to be the mess hall for the skippers from the nearby Jungle Cruise. “Soft opening” is a phrase meaning that the venue is still being tested and not officially open, so it may close at any time without warning.

That said, friends of the blog Darren Wittko and Brandon Glover managed to saunter in and take some photos for us this morning. Have a look! (And don’t forget to check out Derek Burgan’s look at the Skipper Canteen’s signature drinks including the Schweitzer Slush).

Looks lovely. Any idea when I’ll be able to make an ADR? I’m visiting in April.

One rumor that has made it as far as the DFB i tht reservations may open middle of this coming week. Not clear when the first date is that one can book, but it seems a safe bet that Paril will be open.

Wow, apologies for the massive typos above. Should be easy enough to figure out what I was trying to type.

The entrees menu link doesn’t work, they both go to the beverages menu when clicked. The restaurant looks cool though!

I’m sorry the menu holds no appeal for me (you cannot view it from the article – I had to click on the name of the restaurant and view it from the restaurant page). However, maybe because this it the next big thing it will free up reservations at other places. To each his own…

I’m glad that the menu isn’t the gentrifried menu found everywhere else. I don’t want more burgers or bland pasta. I hope that they keep seasonings and spices more exciting than elsewhere.

I agree that, hopefully, this opens up other restaurants while providing diversity amongst “standard theme park fare”

I think the restaurant looks great, the menu appeals to me, and I am looking forward to trying it.
