The Deathly Afraid Lanyard – Were We Frightened Less?

Are you Deathly Afraid of Halloween Horror Nights? Universal Studios Florida has introduced a game-changing option for guests who want to experience Halloween Horror Nights without the intense scares. The Deathly Afraid lanyard is now available to signal scare actors that you prefer a less frightening experience during your HHN visit.

The lanyard glows a bright red, signaling the scare actors to relax a bit.

How Does the Deathly Afraid Lanyard Work?

The lanyard has a brightly glowing red disk that identifies you as a guest who’s here for the fun but doesn’t want to be scared out of their skin. When the scare actor sees your glowing red armor, instead of coming at your face (yes, I mean literally), they will walk past or even turn away – again, literally.

Now, before you get too excited, the lanyard is only for the Scare Zones and common areas. If you choose to go into the Houses, this truly becomes an “Enter if You Dare” scenario. If you are unsure about the distinction, please refer to our HHN guide for more information.

Scare Actors get Close – maybe Too Close!

We’re Touring Plans – Of Course We Tested It!

I walked through all of the Scare Zones without the Deathly Afraid lanyard, and I had scare actors jumping at me, a chainsaw was rudely shoved at my face, and overall, I was startled numerous times. When I added my newest accessory, the glowing red disk, I had scare actors avoid me, and as I mentioned above, some actually turned away. Not one actor came close or even hissed at me. It was an absolute success.

However, I did witness some of the scare actors hiding to jump out at guests, or following from behind and startling them. It is very possible that in those situations, they would not see the lanyard in time to avoid scaring you. This is why they make it clear that there are no promises that you won’t be frightened.

Lanyards are only found in one place!

Where Do I Buy the Deathly Afraid Lanyard?

The lanyard is only available in the Halloween Horror Nights Store located near the park entrance. The lanyards are $20 and come with all the appropriate warnings: to be clear, there are no guarantees you won’t be frightened. More warnings: this is not a toy, and don’t eat the batteries – because, lawyers.

I’m scared, but I’m happy about it. A loose quote, but I felt like a little bit of Ron Weasley applies here.

Is the Deathly Afraid Lanyard Right For You?

Of course, the majority of the guests enjoy the scary atmosphere at HHN. But not everyone enjoys the intense scares. This lanyard is perfect for the guest who:

  • Wants to enjoy the social aspect of Halloween Horror Nights.
  • Still wants to enjoy the event’s unique theming and entertainment – the production values are really impressive!
  • Is accompanying friends or family, but has a lower tolerance for the scary stuff. Looking at you, moms!

Deathly Afraid of HHN?? This will help – a little! The lanyard does not work in houses! Only in Scare Zones and Common Areas. There are no promises made that every scare actor will see it- definitely not a guarantee. But we did notice a difference. $20 at the Halloween Horror Nights store at the front of the park. Have fun! Be safe and make good choices!!💀🎃 #hhn #universalorlando #halloweenhorrornightsorlando #halloween #UOR

  • Thanks for the review Amy? Am I the only one who wishes there’s a “Scare Me More!” lanyard offered where they come for you more? I’d be interested in that one!
