TRYathlon Road Tour Hosted by Radio Disney

This past Saturday, August 31, marked the tour stop of Disney’s TRYit! campaign, a free event hosted by Radio Disney in Orlando. This tour kicked off in New York City on July 20, and its goal is to inspire families to try something new: new foods, new activities, etc. to have a balanced lifestyle.

The event took place outside the entrance to ESPN Wide World of Sports from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and my daughter and I decided to check it out. As we arrived we were met by a Radio Disney host that had me fill out 3 pages of waivers and such. After that we were given a card where we had to check off the activities my daughter did.

First off was HOOP it, where she had to take an inflatable basketball and – you guessed it – hoop it. Then it was BUILD it, where there were several foam pieces and the kids were asked to build anything they wanted using their imaginations. Then on to PLAY it, where they had soccer balls and the kids had to score a goal. After that was PLATE it, where you had a magnetic board and the kids had to choose a balanced plate of fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy. Then it was DANCE it, the last event. Radio Disney had a DJ playing music and getting the kids to dance to one full song. The kids then gave their card to the last person, were given a nice TRYit! drawstring backpack, and could place their card into a raffle for a chance to win one registration for any runDisney event in the coming year.

I was glad we decided to go at 10 a.m., because even at that time the sun was brutal and there was no shade at all. There were only a couple of kids doing the activities, but by the time we left there was a line at the sign up desk.
