A Very, Very Last Minute Trip to Walt Disney World

I have written many times that most of my trips to Walt Disney World are last minute.  Well, this is the mother of  last minute trips for even me.  I found out today that I get to go to my favorite place in the world on Sunday. Yes, the Sunday in 3 days.

I got on the Internet to book a room and guess what?  There’s little availability.  I didn’t want to break the bank on this trip.  I would have been thrilled  to stay Value.  No Luck — even when I broke the 4 night trip into 2 night stays.   So, I am forced to stay Deluxe.

I will arrive late Sunday night and enjoy a 2 night stay at the Contemporary.  In all of my trips to WDW I have never stayed here. I am ecstatic and I got a great Annual Passholder rate.  The last two nights I will stay at the Wilderness Lodge.  I know the “Unofficial Guide”  guru, Len Testa, often refers to the Wilderness Lodge as a Moderate Deluxe, I still love it.  My other options were the Beach Club and the Grand Floridian.  They were more than I wanted to pay for this last minute trip and I want to be able to go back again and again.

I have yet to make a dining reservation, but will let you know what you can expect if you find yourself with a very, very, last minute trip to Walt Disney World.  So far so good, I have a place to rest my head and hope to have magical dreams.

  • Hi … I just found your site recently. I for sure enjoy checking out the writing. I am about to bookmarked. Thanks much for writing. I came across your website via ask.com. Excellent to know that the search engine knows how to give good blogs and not trash websites. Have a great new year.

  • What kind of room did you get at the Contemporary? The garden wing seems pretty affordable.

Flying by the seat of your pants every once in a while is good for you! Have a blast!

    • Hey Kristen,
Yes, I got a garden wing room. I think they had something in the tower — but more than I wanted to spend this trip. I can just hope they run out of Garden wing rooms before I check in and they only have rooms left in the tower :).
I just read your blog about the Wilderness Lodge. I will let you know how my experience goes.
      Thanks again.

      • Sounds good! Let us know how the garden wing is. It intrests me because its the cheapest way to stay on the monorail. I hope you have a better time at WL than I did too! Have a great trip!

  • You will LOVE the Contemporary. I wish I could stay there every time. But it’s rarely possible. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks! I am looking forward to it. Can’t wait to get there. I have a long drive a head of me.

  • It can be done. Last year my husband and I decided at 1:30 pm to catch a 5:30 pm flight with our kids (ages 8,6,4,and 1) to WDW. We were staying at my sister-in-laws for a couple of days and because of Ike our 2 day trip to Dallas turned into 2 days in Dallas plus 5 days at WDW.

I learned you can get pretty much anything you need at the resort gift shop and sometimes having no plan is the best plan.

    Have fun!

    • Hi TX Mom,
I love your hurricane story. Next time I am running from a hurricane, I’ll meet you at WDW.
I will let you know how it goes having no plan.

  • Thanks Mikey. I don’t have a spontaneous bone is my body so this is pushing me out of my comfort zone. I’ll let you know how I do without a plan.
Time to gas up the car and get ready for a road trip.

  • Last minute trips are the best. Some of the best decisions in life are made from spontaneous inspirations. Have fun. I know it’s a contradiction of your name, but, maybe go without a plan for the two days. That will be fun! Be safe!

    Go Magic.
