Epic Universe Rope Drop Guide

Epic Universe is one of the hottest tickets in Orlando with its amazing themed worlds, incredible attractions, and delicious food and drink. But what’s the game plan when it’s “go time” at park opening? This article will cover all you need to know about rope dropping Epic Universe, from how to get to the park to which attractions to prioritize.

Getting to Epic Universe

Epic Universe is located at the South Campus at Universal Orlando, about 5 miles southeast of the other three parks and their hotels. Guests traveling from the south using I-4 East can either use the exit 72 to FL 528 and follow the signs towards Universal Boulevard and Epic Universe. Guests traveling from downtown Orlando using I-4 West can use exit 75 B-A towards Kirkman Road; follow Kirkman and follow the directional signage to Epic Universe.

Guests staying at Universal Orlando hotels can access Epic Universe using buses. Buses take roughly 15 to 20 minutes to go from a North Campus hotel to Epic Universe. Guests staying at the Helios Grand Hotel have their own entrance in the hotel at the back of the park (more on that later), and guests staying at Stella Nova have a 15 minute walk to the main Epic Universe entrance.

Parking

Do not go to the North Campus parking garages adjacent to CityWalk; instead, navigate to 1001 Epic Blvd, Orlando, FL 32819. Guests driving to Epic Universe will park in a lot divided into six sections: Valet, Explorer (priority parking), Monster, Viking, Dragon, and Hero. There are no parking trams or moving walkways here (boo!), just a long walk to the arrival plaza. Depending on where you park, expect to take 5-10 minutes to walk to the entrance.

Security, Entry, & Pre-Opening Operations

Security at Epic Universe is under the same roof as the turnstiles – quite literally. Guests must pass through metal detection and have all bags go through a scanner. Each lane has its own security station and turnstile, though we find the ones at the far right end have the shortest waits. Turnstiles for Epic Universe use Photo Validation for entry into the park. We find this entry system is as fast as Disney’s tap entrances.

Once inside the park guests, are directed either to the left or right for Early Park Admission (EPA) and regular admission guests. To the left is Super Nintendo World and Constellation Carousel while Berk, Potter, and Stardust Racers are to the right. Guests without access to EPA will be held at a separate gate, either in front of Super Nintendo World or to the right of Berk. Due to the mixing of the two groups make sure you follow signage for EPA guests and be prepared to show your hotel key or Annual Pass.

New Early Park Admission procedures at Epic Universe

Early Park Admission Rope Drop

Early Park Admission starts an hour prior to the official park opening. Epic Universe has been opening at 10:00 am for most of 2026, with a 9:00 am start time for EPA. The following attractions are open for EPA rope drop:

  • The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic
    • Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry
  • Super Nintendo World
    • Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge
    • Yoshi’s Adventure
    • Mine-Cart Madness
  • How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk
    • Hiccup’s Winged Gliders
    • Dragon Racer’s Rally
    • Meet Toothless
  • Celestial Park
    • Constellation Carousel
    • Stardust Racers

Aim to be at the turnstiles at least 45 minutes prior to EPA start, or 90 minutes prior on busy days. Many guests will arrive about 30 minutes prior to EPA start, and you want to be well ahead of them. This means for a EPA start at 9:00 am, you should be in line for the busses no later than 7:30 am.

Attractions to Prioritize

We used our TouringPlans touring plan optimization software on a 9 out of 10 day to see what the ideal strategy is for early entry. Our software beeped, booped, and after resetting the PRAM (IYKYK), we got a dot-matrix print out of the touring plan. It’s amazing what Power Macintosh G3 all-in-one can do!

If you are the very first in the park and at the front of the EPA line, we suggest doing Mine Cart Madness, then crossing the park and riding Battle at the Ministry. You should be in line for Ministry prior to the end of EPA if you execute this plan, knocking out two of the longest queues of the day before the park officially opens.

If you are not among the very first in the park, but are still inside the park before EPA starts, then reverse the touring strategy: head to Ministry of Magic first, then Mine-Cart. While this seems like a small change, this swap will save you around HALF AN HOUR of waiting in line.

Do you have a young viking? Skip Ministry and Mine-Cart and instead head to Berk to meet Toothless, it’s quietly one of the longest lines in the park, and it moves slowly and is in the sun.

Regular Rope Drop

Don’t have EPA? You’ll be held either outside of Isle of Berk or Super Nintendo World until the official park opening. Since you have to wait anyway, grab some Starbucks at the front of the park and wait for your turn in the park.

Attractions to Prioritize

You’re going to be zigging while everyone else zags. Start off with Curse of the Werewolf in Dark Universe; your wait will be short since the waits quickly increase an hour after the park opens. After your exposure to the wolves, head back to Celestial Park for Stardust Racers, the high capacity coaster. Once you’re done, head to Berk to ride Hiccup’s Winged Gliders, the highly rated family coaster.

Helios Grand Hotel Entrance

Epic has a back entrance for Helios Grand Hotel guests, similar to EPCOT’s International Gateway. Unlike that entrance, this is ONLY for guests staying at Helios, so don’t Uber over expecting a quick walk to the Ministry of Magic. If you’re starting at Helios Grand, then do Ministry of Magic first, even if you are the first into the park, followed by Mine-Cart Madness. You’ll be among the first dozen on the attraction for the day!
