Touring Plans for Early Morning Magic and Custom Ride Durations

Today we’re releasing two updates to our touring plan software:

Disney’s Early Morning Magic

Disney’s Early Morning Magic is held on selected Sundays and Tuesdays throughout the year. For an additional cost of $69 per adult and $59 per child, you get access to 3 Fantasyland rides (The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and Peter Pan’s Flight), plus breakfast. The event starts around 7:45 a.m. and runs through 9 a.m., when the park opens to regular guests.

When creating a Magic Kingdom touring plan for a day on which Early Morning Magic is held, you’ll be asked whether you plan to attend the event, along with any other special events taking place in the park on the same day:

The touring plan software knows which attractions are open during the event, and will show you the expected wait times for each attraction. (The waits seem to be very low.)

Disney has released the Early Morning Magic schedule through March 2017, and we’ve got each of those events in the app.

Custom Ride Durations

We’ve also released support for custom ride durations for attractions like World Showcase pavilions. Prior to this, we had to make assumptions about how long most people would spend in places like Morocco or France – typically 10 minutes.  But now, if you know you’re interested in Japan’s exhibits on “cute” culture, for example, you can set aside 20 or 30 minutes (or more) to explore in more detail. Just edit the step in your plan like this:

These custom ride durations are done on a per-step basis. If you visit the same pavilion twice in a plan, you can set a different duration for each step, and the plan will work with those individual wait times. The custom ride durations can be applied to Disney World, Disneyland, and Universal Studios attractions.

About Our Touring Plans

We’ve served more than 13 million customizable, computer-optimized touring plans for Disney World, Disneyland, and Universal Studios since 2011. Those plans have helped millions of people save up to 4 hours in line per day.  Our mobile app, Lines, is the highest-rated app for Disney World in both iTunes and Google Play. The math and computer science behind the app have been covered in Wired, the New York Times, and more

  • Are these days working out? When we were there in September we arrived early for rope drop and found the entire park had been open for quite a while. It was a day they were supposed to have this early thing going on. I assumed that no one had bought tickets for the event and since the staff was already there, they opened early.

  • I’d love custom durations for the walk-throughs at AK as well. I usually wind up putting the Maharajah’s Jungle Trek twice on my plans because I spend so much time looking at things.

  • Awesome! I’ve done the MK Early Morning Magic, and you don’t need a plan for that part because there is absolutely no wait for anything. You just do whichever of the 3 rides you want over and over until the park opens (I think we got in 12 rides). However, a plan that can go from there as to when to eat the included breakfast and what to ride next would be great!

  • When I look at your crowd level predictions lately & the actual crowds, it appears you are so far off. Crowds must be increasing dramatically lately. Why are your predictions so far off the mark? We’re considering not even going on our planned trip, because a week that used to have 2-4 crowd levels now have 6-9.

    • Ah, but not yet included for Star Wars Launch Bay and One Man’s Dream.

A work in progress, I realize.

      • Good call; SWLB could probably benefit from that more than just about anything else. Are you there for just Chewie? Chewie and the Jawas? Film or no film? And so on. Of course, using breaks works fine in the meantime.

      • The Custom Ride Duration functionality has been enabled for Launch Bay and One Man’s Dream. Thanks for the suggestion!

      • Thanks David. Thanks Nicholas!

      • Are there other exhibits/attractions where this might make sense? Maybe the Boneyard? (I don’t have kids, so I’ve never put that one in a plan.) Discovery Island Trails? Test Track pavilion? (used to design a car) any other ideas? (I’m guessing that turning this on for any individual attraction would be straightforward.)

      • Thanks for the custom ride duration addition!

I feel it might also be helpful in places like Spaceship Earth, Mission Space, and (as another poster mentioned) Test Track, where the ride ends in what is essentially a free arcade full of hours of diversions!
