Universal Translator – What is the Bead Tree?

It’s Mardi Gras season, bring on the king cake! But what about a bead tree at Universal Orlando? That seems… odd. Today we talk about this unique phenomenon in today’s Universal Translator.

Universal Orlando operates a Mardi Gras parade during the spring with themed floats. This parade includes the tradition of guests throwing beads from the parade floats to guests watching (keep your shirt on though) below. Bead collecting is a fun tradition for Mardi Gras guests of all ages, but some guests attempt their throwing challenge while leaving the park. Located on the south-facing side of the pedestrian bridge over Universal Blvd, close to the Hollywood Drive-In Golf, is a large tree where guests attempt to throw beads on the branches. We do not condone this action for safety and environmental reasons, and neither does Universal as they frequently remove the beads. But in case you see this tree all festooned with beads, now you know!
