Universal’s Diagon Alley Opening Announced – July 8
Universal Orlando Resort announced today that the long-awaited opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley is scheduled for July 8, 2014.
The opening includes the Hogwarts Express, a first-ever attraction/transport that moves guests between two theme parks (Hogsmeade Station at Islands of Adventure and King’s Cross Station at the Universal Studios Florida park), and Gringott’s Coaster, as well as new dining and retail.
The opening of Hogsmeade Village at Islands of Adventure saw record breaking lines just to enter the park (more than 8 hours). We expect the situation at Diagon Alley to be similar.
Stay tuned for more information as we get it, follow us on Twitter at @TouringPlans, and in the meantime enjoy the promotional video Universal released today:

Some suggestions are, cinnamon, lemon, sweet orange, coconut, chocolate, and hazelnut.
This does warrant a problem though for diabetics

Wonderful! Looking forward to your touring plan. Will it include Hogwarts Express and when is the best time to hop back and forth between the Harry Potter attractions in both parks? I will be on my honeymoon and at the Universal Parks July 10-12th. I am so glad we decided to do our touring at the Walt Disney World parks before heading over to Universal. Otherwise we would have have missed the opening of Diagon Alley by just a few days!
Are you going to update your preliminary Diagon Alley touring plan now that you have attended the media event?
The preliminary plan was just a blog article. We’ll have the real touring plans (found at http://touringplans.com/universal-studios-florida/touring-plans) updated before July 8.
A related question. Do you think the opening of Diagon Alley will impact crowds at WDW through summer and fall? I could see it going either way; either increasing because more people are headed to FL for the opening or decreasing because week long visitors may spend more time at universal and less at wdw. What are your thoughts?
We rely on the historical data for these things – Hogsmeade didn’t hugely increase crowds at WDW and New Fantasyland didn’t hugely increase crowds at Universal. Everything will be factored into the Crowd Calendars for each resort (for instance we know when the hotels are more full and that that correlates to higher crowds).
Any predictions on what crowds will be like by mid/late August? We’re planning on hitting WDW 8/16 to 8/22 and want to catch Universal, but I have no idea what to expect about crowd levels for planning purposes. If our main plan is to hit the Harry Potter stuff, can we figure on one day? Two?
The wait time models for the attractions are already in place. The statisticians are re-indexing the Universal overall crowd numbers as we speak, and that will be the best place for information on crowd levels. As I’m not a statistician, I can only guess “really big” for the crowd levels – but we’re not big on guesses around here.
If you mean Hogsmeade *and* Diagon Alley, you’ll need at least two days.
