10 Staterooms to Avoid on Disney Ships

I’ll start this post by saying – when I’m on a Disney cruise, I’m happy. The stateroom does not make or break my vacation by any means. Having said that, there are some staterooms that I like better than others. Here are 10 that I would avoid, and the reasons why!

As I did in my blog post about the best staterooms on each Disney ship, we will talk in terms of the ship class. The sister ships in each class have identical stateroom layouts, numbers, and locations. The Magic-class ships are the Magic and Wonder. The Dream-class ships are the Dream and Fantasy, and the current Wish-class ships are the Wish, Treasure, and Destiny.

1. Certain Category 4 Staterooms on the Magic-class – There are a few category 4s on the Magic-class ships that have whitewall verandahs, which means there is a metal wall below the railing. The whitewalls on some verandahs aren’t a big deal, particularly the ones on staterooms that are all the way aft, on the rear of the ship with the large verandahs. There are others, however, that have standard-sized verandahs and a whitewall. 8090, 8092, 8594, 8596, and 8598 are five of them. I find those annoying because I can’t sit and look out at the ocean. I can stand and see out, but I’m probably not going to be out there standing for long periods of time. So, I’d avoid these when choosing a category 4.

2. Deck 1 on the Magic-class – I’m not a fan of deck 1 on the Magic-class ships. It’s not a full deck for passengers, and crew areas block access to the aft elevators, which makes it a little bit more difficult to get around. I also do not like the oceanview staterooms on deck 1, which have two small portholes instead of one large one, as you will find in the other oceanview staterooms. I definitely think it’s worth the cost to upgrade to at least Deck 2.

3. Forward on Deck 2 on the Magic-class – While I like deck 2 in general, all the way forward on the Magic-class ships is directly underneath the nightclubs, and there can be some noise in your stateroom, especially late at night. Unless you like to hear that bass thumping when there’s a late-night dance party!

4. Far Aft on Deck 5 of the Magic-class Ships – There are a few staterooms all the way aft on the Magic-class ships that have a verandah, but the verandahs are odd shaped and small. 5148, 5150, 5648, and 5650 are particularly bad. I’d avoid those.

5. Parts of Deck 5 and 6 on the Magic and Dream-class Ships – Check the deck plans and avoid staterooms on deck 5 directly above Walt Disney Theatre, and deck 6 directly above the Buena Vista Theatre. You can definitely get some noise during shows and movies. In a similar vein, deck 5 aft is right above the nightclubs on the Dream-class ships. It can be loud at night!

6. Specific Staterooms on Deck 5 of the Dream-class Ships – I would definitely avoid 5005, 5003, 5001, 5501, and 5503. They’ve got the double whammy of sharing a wall with Vibe and Edge and being above the Walt Disney Theatre.

7. Deck 10 Far Aft on the Dream-class Ships – In general, I love the far aft staterooms on the Dream-class ships, but I’ve found the ones on deck 10 under the outside area of Cabanas particularly loud from the crew and guests moving the chairs around on the deck. Especially early in the mornings while setting up for breakfast. Those are 10158, 10160, 10162, 10164, 10166, 10664, 10662, 10660, and 10658.

8. The Wish-Class Ships on Deck 6 Forward – Deck 6 forward is where guests access the bow of the ship. In general, those staterooms all the way forward have great views. On deck 6, however, the windows are basically eye level with the deck. That means anyone on the deck can walk over to the windows and look down into your stateroom. It’s a bit odd to say the least. Those staterooms are 6006, 6004, 6002, 6000, 6500, 6502, and 6504.

9. Two Unique Staterooms on the Wish-class Ships – There is a feature in two staterooms on the Wish-class ships that I’m not sure is true of any other (non-accessible) staterooms on any ships. Staterooms 8192 and 8690, all the way aft on deck 8, have large verandahs, but they have no couches! They have a single fold-out chair in place of a couch. I’d avoid them. Or maybe I’d choose them if that doesn’t bother you! Just something to be aware of.

10. Aft on Deck 6 of the Wish-class Ships – Because the live music in the dinner shows on the Wish-class ships (Arendelle, Coco, and Pride Lands) can be particularly loud at times, I’d be cautious of staterooms that are directly above them on deck 6. You may not be in the stateroom during a show, but if you have little ones who need to go to bed early, you may.

Did I miss any? Have you stayed in a stateroom onboard that you would not choose again? Let us know in the comments!
