Hotel Room Finder Update: Grand Floridian Resort and Grand Flo Villas

Our Hotel Room Finder tool shows the view you get from every hotel room in Walt Disney World.  It’s a collection of over 35,000 photos, plus data like how far every room is from the lobby, from bus stops, and more.  There’s nothing else like it anywhere.

Today we released updates for rooms at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort.  Most of these updates involve:

  • Ensuring our Room View name matches the one used on Disney’s site
  • Updated bed configurations, such as which rooms can accommodate 5 people; or which have daybeds instead of sleeper sofas
  • Better detail around the views in the 1- and 2-bedroom suites
  • Updated ADA accessibility for each room

Grand Floridian – Better Room Type Descriptions!

The Grand Floridian is Disney’s flagship resort in Walt Disney World.  With more than 800 rooms in five buildings spread out across the resort, the Grand Flo probably has more room categories and bedding combinations than any other Disney resort. And because you’re paying a premium to stay there, we want to ensure you have as much information as possible to pick the right room for you.

We spent several days figuring out how to display the right combination of room type, room view, and bedding options for the Grand Flo. By doing this, we’re able to give the most granular look possible at all of the hotels’ room options.

As an example, here are the 16 room types Disney lists for the Grand Flo, and their view descriptions:

  • Resort View – Views of the Courtyard, Marina, or Pool Areas
  • Resort View – Club Level – Views of Courtyard Pool, Magic Kingdom Park or Seven Seas Lagoon
  • Water View – Views of the Seven Seas Lagoon
  • Theme Park View – Views of Magic Kingdom Park
  • Theme Park View – Club Level – Views of Magic Kingdom Park
  • Deluxe Room – Club Level – Views of Courtyard Pool or Beach Pool
  • Deluxe King Room – Club Level – Views of Magic Kingdom Park or Resort Grounds
  • 1 Bedroom Suite – Club Level – Views of Beach Pool
  • 1 Bedroom Suite – Club Level Access – Views of Courtyard Pool [Note the slight difference in name versus the line above]
  • 1 BR – Theme Park View – Club Level – Views of Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom Park
  • 2 Bedroom Suite – Club Level – Views of Courtyard Pool or Beach Pool
  • 2 Bedroom Suite – Club Level Access – Views of Courtyard Pool or Seven Seas Lagoon [Again, note the slight difference]
  • 2 BR – Theme Park View – Club Level – Views of Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom Theme Park
  • Grand Suite – Club Level – Views of Magic Kingdom Park and Panoramic View of Resort Grounds
  • Disney Suite – Club Level – Views of Courtyard Pool
  • Victorian Suite – Club Level – Views of Courtyard Pool

These rooms are very expensive. The large number of room types at the Grand Flo is likely due to Disney trying to maximize how much they can charge for these rooms’ very specific views.  Note, for example, that there are three room types each for 1- and 2-bedroom suites. But there are only 20 of those rooms in total across the resort, which works out to one room type for roughly every 3 rooms.

Here’s a more practical example of how TouringPlans’ Room Finder can help your money go further at Disney World. The most-requested room at the Grand Flo is room 7414, with a wonderful view of the lagoon:

Room 7414 in Conch Key is our most-requested room at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

As Unofficial Guide author Becky Gandillon noted earlier this year, room 7414 is classified as a Resort View room, one of the least-expensive at the Grand Flo. It’s about $100 per night cheaper than room 7413 across the hall, which is a Water View room.

Grand Floridian Resort Bedding Options

Along with 16 different room types, the Grand Floridian offers the widest array of bedding configurations in Walt Disney World. This is important information for families and groups, so we need to be able to display bedding information along with room type.

As an example, Grand Floridian rooms in the Resort View category have four possible bed configurations:

  • 1 King Bed and 1 Double-Size Sleeper Sofa
  • 1 King Bed and 1 Day Bed
  • 2 Queen Beds
  • 2 Queen Beds and 1 Day Bed

So a Resort View room can, in theory, have 12 different combinations of 3 views (Courtyard, Marina, or Pool) and the 4 bed types listed above.

Another fact to appreciate for anyone who’s read this far is that the Grand Flo hasn’t yet standardized on a size for its sleeper sofas. In some rooms, like the Resort Views, it’s a double-size sofa; in suites, it’s a queen-size sofa. But not all suites – the 1- and 2-Bedroom Suite – Club Level Access rooms, have a double sofa. Since you’re paying a lot for these rooms, that information is important.

Here’s a screencap of the new drop-down menu options for the Grand Flo:

In total, we think there are 28 different combinations of room view and bed configuration at the Grand Floridian.

Grand Floridian Resort Accessible Rooms

We also updated the list of Accessibility features found in the Grand Floridian’s rooms. Here’s what that updated drop-down menu looks like:

Room Updates for The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

In comparison, updating the rooms at the Grand Flo Villas took a lot less time. There are only ten distinct room types, excluding options for 2-bedroom lockoffs:
